As for JD closing it's Augusta plant and moving to India, that's a shame for the workers in GA, but I guess if they want to stay competitive, they have to go where they can shave points off the price (through cheaper labor overhead). The Indians are great workers and yes, education is a priority there. I am in the I.T. business, we have several Indian programmers. Great people and by nature aren't "terroristic", nor do they believe it's their religion or you must be killed! They are all alright in my book!

The John Deere Augusta plant is NOT closing. All the 3x20, 4x20, 5x05 and 5x25 tractors are currently made there. If Deere drops the 5x05 line (which is only two models, and sells far less than the 5x03 and 5x25 lines) in favor of a 5x03 line w/MFWD option, that does not mean that the entire plant is going to close.

Oh that's great then :)

I misread the post which stated they were closing that specific line. My bad.

I sat on a M6040. the gear changing "console" was all plastic. And other parts, can't remember.

I agree with the Mahindra prices. But it is a quality tractor.

I heard a point made one time that some of the most patriotic Americans are the ones who bought Japanese cars in the early 80's, I believe too that they saved the AMERICAN auto industry.

John Deere is 2-3 years late getting the 5003 line up and running full speed. That's not Mahindra's fault.

There was a orange Kubota style tractor at an auction that was sold " as is " due to transmission problems. It had the Kubota paint, identical hood , grille, fenders, and matching grey chasis. It did not have kubota labels on any part of the machine. When the new owner took it in for repairs they found the transmission held no similarity to Kubota or any other named compact. The shop called it a "grey market chinese copy of a Kubota ". This took place about ten years ago. When I was looking at a Kubota tractor the sales person was aware of the fakes or knock offs and indicated it was very important to get the serial number off the identification plate along with additional pertinant information. As I recall this one only had casting numbers.
My post was not to indicate Kubota borrowed any ideas from other manufacturers. They appear to be well engineered and command very high prices in the used market. When I compared them it was simply a choice of who had the best service after the sale. Blue was my choice even though they were a bit more expensive. ( sorry if I ruffled someones feathers )

Couple points:

Bleed Green: Deere does not make CUTs or UTs in GA. As the Spin Doctors at JD put it. Assembled in USA with parts sourced worldwide.

Joe:You are describing made in Japan for the Japanese market Kubota tractors, not Chinese copies.

While we're talking tractor copies and Kubota, let's not forget the tractor they copied to build their first UT seen in North America.
