Retirement home search started

The search for our retirement home is officially over! I signed the closing paperwork while sitting in the deer blind this morning (a person has to have priorities), while my wife went to the title company with the check and signed too.

Our downsizing meant going to a bigger house, with a bigger shop and more land, but the upkeep and maintenance will be simpler. We'll probably get moved in early December and then get our current place listed by the new year.

I'm pretty excited. I hate to leave the old place and all the memories, but I think we'll enjoy the new place. We have a number of friends that live within 30 minutes or so.

I have a small list of projects, including building a recreation/trophy room in part of the shop, paddock and loafing shed for horses when the daughter visits and convert a gas fireplace to a wood burner. Possibly add a pool next year, but not sure yet.

Nice place. Ought to keep you busy for a while. You must be pretty tall to reach those upper kitchen cabinets.

For those with shop envy, it's a blank slate. It has a roll-up door on each end and a smaller one in the middle. It does have a bathroom and storm shelter though. I'll plumb it for my air compressor and put an air station on the wall at the driveway.

The designer for our new house wanted to put in a second row of cabinets like that, to balance out the tall ceiling and windows. She was good and we used a lot of her ideas but I vetoed that one. I think it looks fine without them.

What size is the shop? Both it and the house look really nice. Congratulations!
