Those Ruger GP100 and security six revolvers also have a very unique way of being able to take them down for cleaning. very nice, and very dependable. I have sold many of them years ago when I was in that business. MH

Only have one revolver now, and it's a .22. A S&W Model 43 Kit Gun with a 3.5" barrel. Aluminum alloy except for the barrel and springs and such. A nice shooting little gun. I've owned it since 1968 and plan to keep it a while.

My wife has a S&W 642, I think that's the model, similar to one picture already posted.

I carry a 1911 that I built myself but I'm about to buy a 45LC revolver to carry on my horse. It has a little more knockdown power for hunting than the 45 acp. Just a little more. I was thinking about one of the new Taurus western style guns.

If you opt to reload, the .45LC can have a LOT more power than the ACP.

A .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk was my first centerfire handgun (still have it, too). It was one of the first made and had the countersunk chambers. On your horse, carrying a 7 1/2" barrel will not present a problem and will give you a little more power and longer sighting radius, making hitting things a little bit easier. All in all, I like the 5 1/2" length if they still make it. Mine was 7 1/2" but I sent it back to the factory and had a 5 1/2" barrel installed and I like it better.

I think mine only weighs something like 39 ounces unloaded which is about 11 ounces lighter than my .44 Redhawk. It's a light gun in which the recoil is easily managed making it very pleasant to shoot with all the loads I use. The only drawback is it isn't rapid fire, but if you connect with the first shot, the ball game is over.

I settled on two loads for this gun-- a factory equivalent load (250 gr lead RN bullet at 850 fps) and a hunting load (250 lead swc at 1150 fps). That hunting load is an easy load with empties that fall out of the chambers, doesn't lead, moderate (if that) recoil and very accurate. The reason why I never went any hotter is that that load delivers the same knock down power at 100+ yards as the factory load does at the muzzle and the factory load is no slouch. If you get to using the .45LC much on game, you will be amazed at the penetration and killing power of this round.

I bought a S&W 686-6 6" barrel revolver last year (my first) based in part in recommendations from this forum. I have since added a S&W 19-3 2.5" nickel and a K-22. I can't pick a favorite, but my 686 is the most versatile. Still hoping for a 25 yard shot at a deer, but time is runinng out this year!

I love the Rugers, SA or DA, from .22 to .45. I put down a huge, vicious bull armadillo in full charge one night about two weeks ago with my Single-Six with the magnum cylinder. I have shot so many of the nasty little creatures lately that I have started calling it my "Armadillo Annihilator". The magnum does a much better job than the long rifle.

My concealed carry revolver is an old Smith Model 36 with a bobbed hammer. It is just so easy to slip it into a hip pocket. Currently, and probably for at least the last ten years, the revolver I shoot most is a Smith Model 63 Stainless Kit Gun with four inch barrel. It is just a little jewel. Here it is with a ca. 1961 Marlin 39A Mountie I had a matte chrome finish applied to. Two of my favorite .22s.

My two favorite revolvers that are my alternating daily carry weapons are either my small frame Dan Wesson .357 Mag or my S&W model 29 in 44 Mag.

Toss up between my S&W model 27 with 3.5 " barrel (.357)

and

High Standard Police Sentenal (.22) 9 shot

(The .22 is much cheaper to plink with)
