For a lot of folks, their favorite is what they have and that's the case for me.
I have a Ruger .357 that I bought in the 60's. Went into the Air Force & we were supposed to qualify with S&W .38's. Didn't like the balance; too much of the weight was too far back, while my Ruger put a lot of the weight forward for a steadier aim. During qualification, I felt I could shoot better than I was doing, so I cheated: During the rapid fire portion where we were supposed to fire double action, I thumbed that hammer back in recoil & made expert.
The Air Guard has gone to automatics. For me, automatics are like double actions; just can't shoot them as well as my Ruger single action. At the Air Guard our instructor was an Olympic pistol champ and a sniper in Vietnam. FWIW, he says the Glock is junk compared to the Barretta. Military did a lot of testing & the Baretta never misfired or jammed while the Glock did several times.
