For a lot of folks, their favorite is what they have and that's the case for me.

I have a Ruger .357 that I bought in the 60's. Went into the Air Force & we were supposed to qualify with S&W .38's. Didn't like the balance; too much of the weight was too far back, while my Ruger put a lot of the weight forward for a steadier aim. During qualification, I felt I could shoot better than I was doing, so I cheated: During the rapid fire portion where we were supposed to fire double action, I thumbed that hammer back in recoil & made expert.

The Air Guard has gone to automatics. For me, automatics are like double actions; just can't shoot them as well as my Ruger single action. At the Air Guard our instructor was an Olympic pistol champ and a sniper in Vietnam. FWIW, he says the Glock is junk compared to the Barretta. Military did a lot of testing & the Baretta never misfired or jammed while the Glock did several times.

Pilot,
As I'll agree with you on the fact that a person's favorite may probably be the one they own and shoot at the time ( I have a Ruger .357 Blackhawk, Stainless that is a crisp shooter), I disagree that "Glock is junk". There's a reason that the majority of LEO's nationwide carry Glock's and it isn't the fact they are the cheapest on the market!

From the Glock website:

"In the USA, GLOCK pistols are in use in 65 % of law enforcement agencies. Among other things, GLOCK provides pistols for many of American's most elite law enforcement agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Police Department and more than 7.500 other agencies at the federal, state and local levels."

So, if there are many, many cheaper, but great pistols on the market, why would LEO's use them so frequently if they are junk? A department would save a lot of money by procuring a cheaper service pistol...but most don't.

As for the Military and the M9 (Beretta 9mm), it's all about gov't contracts. Beretta made a great deal with the Military, undercut it's competitors and won the contract and yes, is a great pistol too. The M9 is a fine weapon, I really like them! I was an auxiliary military policeman while on my last tour of duty, got activated to full time after 9-11. The M9 was standard issue. It shoots like a champ, I really liked it, so you won't get an argument from me.

I know you didn't personally say that Glocks are junk, but I wouldn't even have posted the quote. It would be like me quoting that one of my buddies called John Deere tractors "junk"... it would just be his opinion and isn't backed up by anything other than personal preference. A lot of people would flame me for posting it:eek:
