riding mower is toast - should I trade my L3400 for BX25

I wouldn't trade.

You'll be out about 10k+ to trade, and will have a smaller machine that still won't now as fast as a ztr

The B wouldn't be any faster than the BX, just higher ground clearance unless a bigger mowing deck which again a BX2660 or the BX25 with a RFM of the same size would do the same speed. The size of the mowing deck will be the determining factor to the amount of mowing time. More HP required for bigger deck so start at deck size. General maintenance the BX25 will do the job but a bigger tractor or heavier or more HP tractor will speed up backhoe production.
I would have to disagree. Our BX2660 and B7500 both have 60" decks under them. The BX will do better in super heavy grass, but in normal or slightly heavy grass, the B7500 will go faster.

I wouldn't trade.

I agree. I would get either a new or used commercial ZTR. It will cost about the same (within a could thousand) and it will work better at mowing.

I have the bx25 and it cuts pretty fast for a 60" mower, but my 72" ZT blows it away. Of course I can't do much but cut grass with the ZT.

That is why I have both.

East Texas, the zero turn speed at which you can get the chore done is what I like. I am tired of mowing, quicker = better.

I have a BX 25 ( not the newer "D" model) and I was considering a "B" series for the cab but cannot really justify it. The BX 25 is one great little workhorse. That said I mow with a Kubota diesel zero turn mower. Rational is while costing more the zero turn is a dedicated mowing machine and the BX 25 is my workhorse replacing many back braking hand implements to do many many jobs around the place and while it has a lower ground clearance that the "B" series I really find it comfortable to operate with little fear of tipping.

If you were happy with the JD 130, you'll be thrilled with the BX25 and it will last forever if properly treated and maintained...I've burned out my share of that grade of tractor and my BX is miles above all of those...Just my opinion...The BX will probably decrease the mow time by 20% or more as it will hog though high grass without complaint...Don't know your specific landscape though.
