Roll over box blade: who has one?

Who has a roll over box blade? Need to replace mine and looking for one. Local dealers all have to order in, and only one I can find is made by bush hog. Anyone else got a lead?

Slippy, I just bought a Gannon roll-over-box blade. 80"cutting blade, 86" overall width, about 900 lbs. Woods owns Gannon, so I would guess that a dealer that sells Woods implements could get you one. Remember, roll-overs are not cheep. I think that Woods also markets one under their own name. Roll-overs are the best /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif IMO.

Slippy, I just looked at the Woods website, and my Gannon looks like it is built a lot heavier than the Woods. I don't know for sure, just telling it as I see it. Oh, and the 900lb weight for mine is what the dealer had told me, never saw a weight tag or anything.

The one I have now that I bent is a Gannon. I thought they went out of business. It has been a real work horse for me and would buy another one if I could find it. Do you have any info on their location or what dealers carry them? Thanks.

Didn't Woods or Bushhog buy Gannon? Have you looked at the Bushhog site?

I have a 5' roll over. Bent it a little; bent(more twisted, my lock bars were mismatched and only one would lock in) the main cross bar that the whole thing roles on. I was able to removethe end of that bar, rotate, and reweld it.

For as beefy as they are, my little 19hp Kubota was able to tweak it...

Actually, thats what happend to mine. It is twisted and it will only lock in on one side. I also bent the cutting edge. Caught it on a cut off stump.

For those interested, here is what I have learned about the box blades.

There are three companies that I have found that make the roll over box blades: Bush Hog, Gannon and Woods. From what I can tell, they are all similar with respect to how they function. The Woods has a corner support that makes it seem like the strongest of the two. However, one could say that the other ones are strong because they do not need the extra support. So.. I don't really know the answer.

Gannon is made by Gannon in LA california. Woods is made in Illinois. Woods sells alot more of the smaller box blades, and Gannon is focused on more industrial type equipment. The list prices for the Gannon are lower than those of the Woods. However, the shipping and surcharges to get them shipped out are high. So, if you live on the west coast, you are probably going to get a better buy on the Gannon. Mid states to east cost, look for the Woods to be the better buy.

What I like about the Woods is what I don't like about the Woods: the corner support. While the supports will provide apparent additional strength, it appears from the picture on the woods web site that the support would also cause wet dirt/mud to hand in the corners. Look at the pic below close and you can see them in the corners.

List price for the FD100 (Gannon 65") is $1400.00. List for the Woods 60" is $1999.00. But, remember the extra costs of shipping and surcharges.

There is another manufacture called Gill. As near as I can tell they do not make the roll over box blade, but do make box blades. I understand that Woods bought Gill as well.

Bush Hog also makes one, but from what I can tell from pictures, it appears lighter duty, and specs on weight is less.

I have called my local folks and getting prices. Woods does seem to have deeper discounts than Gannon.

Specs on the Woods shows it to be more lbs.

Slippy, the Bush Hog has a rectangular tube at the hitch area. The Woods tube is round. Both have bent plate for the top link. My Gannon has a round tube with 3 angles welded to it. The tower for the top link is made with 3/4" plate I believe. Mine is a cat 2 only hitch. Don't know if that makes any difference.
My brother thinks that you could get it shipped for less than $500. Let me know if you need a dealers number from out here.

Using it as a dozer. Also, jerking when I was trying to pull forward, trying to pop manzinita stumps. In retrospect, I'm surprised it tweaked the scraper instead of busting something on my Kubota. I'm glad too; it didn't cost anything to fix the scraper, but if the tractor woulda bent or broke, it would have been expensive.

Now, I use a box scraper more often than not. I like the weight and the ripping or cutting ability of the roll over. But, I like being able to work the rippers with the scraper at the same time.

What do you guys prefer about the roll-over scraper?

Mine has replaceable cutting edges; doesn't your cutting edge bolt on?

It was pretty easy to cut the end plate off, rotate the pieces into position, and weld it back in place. Since then, all has worked fine. I have since then though, stopped trying to force my little 19hp tractor to do harder jobs... It's actually the forerunner to the B2710/2910 Kubota. It just has a smaller motor(mine is a B8200HST. B9200 had more like 24hp).

Maybe your could be repaired?

RobertN, I like to have better control of the dirt when backfilling, and to drag and smooth out an area after scraping (with the drag in the back fill position). Also to put the rippers down and go. Don't worry about gathering dirt while ripping.
To be honest though, I was raised with a Gannon roll-over, and that is all that I am familiar with.

I'm also curious as what the advantage if any there is to a rollover style. I've never used or seen one other than in a picture.

I have a regular style Woods BB with a floating gate and using the HTL can rip only, rip and fill the box, grade, smooth etc. etc.. Just depends on the angle of the HTL, this is all with the rippers up. For really deep ripping they can be dropped. Haven't needed to drop them since getting the HTL.

Hey all...thanks for the feed back. I called the dealer that has the box blade for sale. It is in pretty bad shape and he was not real interested in sending any more photos. Thought it worked, but was not sure. But, do appreciate the info.

As for uses, once you use a roll over box blade, I don't think you will go back to a standard blade. One of the features I like is the ability to quickly change from cutting to dragging. Great for driveway and trail work. I have put in miles of tails on my property using the box blade and loader.

CTyler, I guess that maybe the biggest difference from a std box blade would be that all the functions of the roll-over blade can be done with no aux hydraulics and never getting out of the tractor seat. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The actual workings probably aren't all that much different. Could be what each of us get used to is what we end up most comfortable working with.
