Roll Up Doors rattling....

New pole barn is finally finished. All looks good and it sure is nice. My issue is that my two 10x10 roll up doors are rattling in the breeze. Anything I can do to help quiet those down? I see some play in how it sits in the tracks...is there something I should do there to help and maybe 'weatherize' that area as well? Thanks!

If it helps I'd call this a "Slat" door....I think that is part of the issue as well.

I would get the weather strip that you would use for a garage door and apply it so there is slight pressure against the door slightly pushing it to the back of the track.

Are the doors Insulated :if not I would cement some sheet foam insulation to the inside to add stability .Also make sure they are against the weatherstriping firmly.

I dont think foam boards will work as it will prevent the doors rolling up...

Not if it is cut in pieces the width of each section and fit inside the sections lip.

I've never owned one but I have been around a few. I think rattling is what roll-up doors do best.

hmm -- sorry I only can picture a roll up door to be less then 1/2 inch thick so no room for foam boards. I can understand a regular uninsulated door can hold foam boards.

To OP - got a pic of the doors? also how often do you need to open the doors? reason I asked is because if it annoyed me enough, I would have taken couple 2x4's and brace it on door to lessen the rattling .

You can wedge peices of cardboard between the track and door, this helps.

Look at your local hardware store for the rubber lip the sell for wooden doors. They used to all be foam rubber but the brand that Home Depot carries has changed it to a more solid rubber. That might work in your favor. If you can mount it to something to push against the door (I think it will fit similar to the previously mentioned plastic strips to the door frame). It might have more springy pressure than the plastic weatherstripping. Cheap enough to try (9' or 16' strips). Or turn the radio up. Then cut some wood, grind something, start your tractor up, etc. Then you will not notice it.

OK, finally figured it out...there IS weatherstripping in the tracks that was left off by the manufacturer. Builder ordered me some and is coming out to install. They apparently exert enough pressure to keep it from rattling. Thanks all!

I'm sincerely glad that everything worked out positive and the problem will soon be corrected.
