Thanks, Garry,

I should have been able to figure that out myself since it is, I gather, a TBN 101 function...guess I belong in that <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=genoperating&Number=173567&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=>I'm an Idiot!!</A> forum /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

A walk behind tractor is an option. The ones typically used in Europe have diesel engines and run up to 14 hp. With the optional wheel setups running across 45 degree slopes would be duck soup. Attachments range from round hay balers to mowers to backhoes to a powered trailer..

None of it is cheap. Figure $6,000 for just the tractor. The backhoe attachment goes for $7,000. Mowers and tillers are typically about $2,000. A 42" tiller is the usual size for a 14 hp. With the trailer attached, the tractor turns into an articulated 4wd vehicle.

The big advantage is a walking tractor can work small fields on a slope that a tractor can't.

I have a ditch that I bushhog that pushes 30 degrees. I mow it with a L3710DT, 4wd and 6 foot Rhino SE6 but I'll have to admit the pucker factor is really high. I only hog it when the ground is hard and the grass is dry and I only have to make two passes at that angle (total distance about 2000 ft.) There are no wheel ballasts. I wonder how crazy that really is sometimes but I've hogged it about 8 times in two years and never a problem...but have I just been lucky...I'm a new poster but I'll see what I can do about getting some pictures of the ditch. BTW, 1st gear low range only.

For years a local man used a sickle bar on his tractor without a ROPS to cut a hillside. Last year he rolled the tractor. I heard about it from the tow truck driver who pulled the tractor off him.
