Roof Pitch; 4/12 or 3/12?

If you are going to use Unistrut, get it at a supply house, they will have 20' sticks, no joints for the doors to stick on that way.

And the supply house will have galvanized Unistrut for outdoor applications. But, it's more expensive than the indoor plated stuff.

They also make a two axle slider for more weight rating if you think you need it.

Yeah, I saw the double trolley version. Doors will only be 7' wide, so I don't really need 20 footers and there shouldn't be a whole lot of weight involved. Since they'll be under an overhang and not exposed directly to rain or snow, I don't know if I really need galvanized either.

I don't have a way to carry a 20 footer either. 16' is about my limit and that's really too long. If I get my length figured out ahead of time, I could take a recip saw with me and cut it in their lot I guess.

Still pondering. Still working on the structure and ground/drainage so the doors will be a ways off in the future yet.

If it ever stops raining long enough .....

I replaced the old rusted away sliding door track and hardware on our barn with the standard Ag stuff you see everywhere. I used two 8' lengths of track and placed the joint between the two sets of rollers such that they don't run over it in use. Also one of the hanger brackets spans both ends of the joint to help keep it in line.

Last of the rafter/truss sections went up today. Something is definitely skewed, but I'll make it work. I was hoping to get a couple more roof panels up, but I ran out of steam. Lots less of that these days.

Probably that 5” out of square. We usually try to stay at or under an 1/8th at 25 feet. Building in stages does make it more difficult. I would usually stake the whole thing out in the beginning and use string to stay on target. You can restring each time you resume and if you save the string then you don’t have to buy more.

I can surely relate. Got the last section of rafters up on my project but no steam for the metal panels. Today.

I know it's out of kilter. I can see that with every board or panel I place now. But there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not sure how it could have been better given how it was done. There's a picture here somewhere showing the grade difference over the 30' run of this ... it drops several feet. I'd like to have added another 10', making it 40', but the ground drops another 3-4' over that last 10' meaning I would have needed 20 or 24' posts. No way I could handle that.

Yes, a 5" skew is bad, but like I said, I'm surprised it ended up ONLY 5" and not a foot.

Got the last of the purlins up today, but way too windy to deal with 14' roof panels. I've had my fill of razor sharp metal panel edges (hand still isn't 100% and may never be), so I dang sure ain't interested in flying metal kites in 15-25MPH winds.

Managed to get some of the end panels on though just to get an idea of the 'new' inside space. That area was somewhat sheltered from the winds and I could tie the panels off enough to control them safely.

Have I said how much I despise ladders? 20' extension ladders while wielding a nailer? Well, if I haven't, I do.

Be careful up there Dig. It’s when you get too comfortable that a mistake happens. Y’all ladders are no fun no matter how long you have been doing it. All it takes is one mistake.

I had a roofer friend fall the other day. He’s been at it almost 30 years. The ladder slid down the drip edge and he went with it. I asked him what happened he said he was just too complacent. Something he had done thousands of times. All he was doing was climbing on the roof to look at something. Thankfully he only sprang an ankle.

Most of the time when I messed up it was just being too complacent.
