I built a tree stand for an upside down pine tree root ball. Pine tree's have a small, compact & shallow root system. After digging the tree out, I pressure washed the dirt off.
The stand is 1/4" steel with a 12" pipe and gussets welded to it.
Sort of an environmental modern art. Although my wife thinks otherwise.
