Your best bet is to find a welder willing to build one or adapt a used one for you. The problem will be to find someone willing to accept the potential liability.

So far I haven't found any company willing to take on the product liability risk for an after-market
ROPS. Thus you're left with fabricating one yourself, or finding a local welding shop that will probably require you to sign some sort of indemnification before they'll do something for you.

You can't ask them for a ROPS. Most will be happy to build you a heavy duty canopy (for sun and rain protection /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).

Or maybe a heavy duty "running light" support bar.

Thanks everyone for your help with the ROPS for my 2000. Does anyone know any thing about rear loaders for tractors? I saw a website that sells them, maybe someone could tell me how well this system works. Thanks.

I am new owner of a Yanmar 2000. I bought the op manual for the tractor, but I am still not sure what weight motor oil I should use. I live in north Ga. Our summer tempatures are often close to 90 but our winter tempatures are usually not lower than the 20's. Can someone advise me about the best weight of motor oil for this region. Thanks

I live in MD where the summers are just about as hot, and the winters can be much colder. I use Shell Rotella T 15W40 diesel rated oil. Get it at your local WalMart for about $6.50/gal. Whatever you use, make sure it is diesel rated.

There is a company I have seen on the net called Hercules ROPS that sells Yanmar ROPS.

I just looked up the website - its www.herculesrops.com

Apparently they sell certified ROPS for all gray market tractors.

I don't know if I would trust those or not. They don't look as well built as those that California put on his Yanmar.

California's ROPS

Yeah, they're certainly not what I expected. Calling them "home built" looking might be an insult to some of the craftsmen we have posting here....

I couldn't find any prices, and the link to their US distributor didn't open for me. Anyone find out how much?

Plus too and also, it didn't look like they fold either.........

Why is everyone looking at some off the wall company, for ROPS for a YM2000? Why wouldn't you buy them from one of our dealers on here? Like LMTC???? Or from Fredricks?? I think they are only about $625 the last I knew, plus shipping. And I don't think that is much as they ship by UPS.

They do not fold....not unless they have added a new version. Also, saying something is "certified" is a bit ambiguous. (not that you said this, the website says this /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) My question....is it OSHA compliant?? The ones we sell are. And they fold.

I also emailed them for more info.... thought maybe i'd find one for my 186D. No response back.

LMTC, Fredericks and Hoye are located in the US. Hercules is in Australia.

I don't know what models are currently available but, if you want a ROPS you should contact LMTC or HOYE . The ROPS they sell have been tested & certified for your tractor.

Attached: The folding ROPS retailed by Hoye, LMTC, Fredericks, etc, says OSHA on the builder's tag.

Here's a link to the thread where I posted my installation photos:

I went and read that OSHA chapter cited on the ROPS tag. (OSHA 1928.52). For those who like detail:

It looks like the ROPS is tested with a pendulum weighing slightly more than the rated ROPS capacity. The pendulum is suspended 25 ft above. It is swung back until its center of gravity is 1 ft higher than the point where it will impact the ROPS. If I understand what I read, this gives a 4200 lb pendulum 4200 ft-lbs of energy when it strikes.

One impact is made from the rear then another from the side. To pass, the momentary maximum deflection of the ROPS has to remain outside the operator space.

There's an alternate test method. The tractor is started up a 60 degree ramp causing it to flip backward. Then its driven 10 mph toward a ramp on one side which flips it on its side. It seems to me this moving rollover would stress the ROPS more than the pendulum test. Only one of the series, the driving or pendulum series, must be passed to prove conformance.

Right on California you got it. I like the dynamic stress test.
and below is a statement I took off Hercules' Website...

Regardless of what anyone says to you about not needing a ROPS for your tractor...

Regardless of any Standard, stating that your tractor is below the minimum weight that makes a ROPS a legal requirement, remember that:

"...even with the smallest tractor sitting on your chest, your first breath will almost certainly be your last".
