... Kubota or the Unimog?...
)</font>
Bill,
I pull it with the Kubota. The mog has PTOs f/r, but I don't have a 3 point setup. Yet... I may attach a draw-bar hog to the mog at some point.
I will say that when hooking the landpride to the Ford jubilee, the front end of the jubilee gets pretty light. Not light enough to worry about, but I did lift the front wheels when letting out the clutch once. I should put the finish mower on the 3830, but haven't gotten around to that yet.
KY, my 6' Howse cutter only weighs about 650 pounds. It also only cost $495 (that is the main reason I liked it). I thought it would only be very light duty but I have cut nearly 2" saplings with no trouble at all. It has a slip clutch which I much prefer over a shear pin.
my land varies and has hills and flatland....works great, is responsive.....the front end has never felt light, loader is
on the tractor, haven/t taken it off yet....I would suspect
It may get a little light w/o the loader
I don't think you could go wrong w/ either unit, If picking between the two I would lean towards what your local dealer
stocks blades/bearings/seals for.....
They actually stock both. Another dealer has just bush hog which is were I bought my tractor from but further away and another dealer just has woods which is were I bought my box blade from. all are 1 1/2 hr. away to 2 1/2. I guess I just dont want to be posting later that my rotary is broke or split. Would probably like the 286 but it may be to heavy at 922Lbs. On the standard the Wood bb72 looks the best made and that was what I had decided on until the dealer said it was heavier in the back and the bush hog would be better for my L3830. Then I read today in attachments that some one was pretty dissatisfied with thier woods 72 rotary because of paint and soforth. That is why I posted here to see what other L3830 owners have and how they like it. Thanks ---Shane
Hi John, I actually was comparing the woodsbb72 (702lbs) with the Bush Hog SQ 720(650Lbs.) I think your right, I would be pushing it with the286 as the manual recomends 72in and up to 926lbs. The trouble with the 285 is that I have a long drive and I wouldn't be able to cut the sides because my tires are about 72 inches wide. One side of the drive is about 2 to 5 feet wide then drops straight down hill (mountain). Plus I need to cut along my fence line as well. I just figured th 5 ft. wouldn't allow me to get close enough. I know there is quite a bit of difference in 10 gauge side bands and 1/4 inch side bands but I may not have an option. So I guess I need to decide betweeen the Bush Hog Squealer 72 and the Woods brush bull 72. Thanks ---Shane
The 286 works fine with weight on the front. Only steep hills will get the front end lite. I mean steep. Thats why I wouldn't want any more weight than 922lbs for my place. Power wise, I have the 41 hp version and power is not a problem at all. So, I can't comment on that, except that my dealer said it would run fine and that they use the set up themselves. After the first cut in many years, I'll never let my fields get tall again anyway.
What ever size you get, I would highly recommend a true medium duty cutter. After a few broken light duty models and much deck welding, it cost less to buy just one med cutter.
