Re: Rotary Cutter for L3830

Shamus, I notice the L4330 has the same Rotary limitation as the L3830 which is 72 in. and 926Lbs. Though it does have 4 more horse power. I will have my loader on. I was just worried about the safty on hills. as well as whether would it put a strain on the engine or transmision. I saw were you have already went through two other rotaries and would like to learn from your experince. Maby I am over concerned. Has any one on tbn have a 286 on thier L3830? Thanks, --- Shane

Re: Rotary Cutter for L3830

Doesn't "RAT" have 1200 pounder on his? I'm happy with my 286/L4330/LA853. I was going to go with the L3830, but figured I could use the slightly longer tractor and the 4 banger considering the finance offers.

I believe the trans is the same as in the L5030, so I'm sure it can take a lot. My dealer reports no trans problems at all. The only repairs they do are for abuse. They sell thousands of MF, Long, Belarus, NH, Bota, Zetor and a few other big (blue like NH) tractors I never heard of. They say only a small number of botas have problems and they make up exactly 61% of their sales.

I use the 286 bush hog on steep hills and the extra torque is real nice. I don't bogg at all, plenty of power for my needs. I kinda wish I loaded the tires with the loader, I may do that after I clean up the deep muddy woods and build my new log bridge ... that is if it ever stops raining long enough. I now sink out of sight.

The Kubotas I looked at were all well built with no wires ect.. hanging down. The electrics are real tight on mine, its been "drowned" and worked in heavy rain with no problems. I like the build quality, nothing rattles or vibrates at all (yet).

Hopefully this tractor will do well, I'm really tired of the cheaper brands. I bought this one mainly because of name, all our farm tractors have been rusian with straight gears. They have ran well, but I've never been comfortable on one. Even the 825 Belarus was short on leg room. The little Kubota is much more comfortable for my 6'4" 280 (and loosing slowly) pound frame. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Rotary Cutter for L3830

I believe RaT's rotary is 1300 lbs, but I don't know if he has had it on his L3830 yet. How much more does the LA 853 Weigh than the LA723 loader. I wonder if that may makes a difference in carrying the 286 between the L4330 and the L3830. I have had my L3830 two months now and still can't say enough good things about it. Can't believe I once thought it would be to big for my property. I started looking at the bx22 then jumped to the b7800. After seeing the b7800 and L3130 side by side I picked up a Grand L series brochure and saw that the weight doubled for not much more in price. Figured if I was already going that big the L3830 was only 65 lbs more but more horses and a wider stance for a back hoe so ended up with it and couldn't be happier. Got around 72 hrs on it already, mostly with fel and back hoe and a few hrs of box blade work. The L3130 probably would have done or the L4330 even better, but for all the dirt and rock (tons) I had to move because of three land slides on my property I needed more weight than the B series had. My Dad has a Long tractor on tracs and father inlaw and brotherinlaw has John Deere 28 and 65 hrs power But they all love my Kubota. Fatherinlaw made the comment that he would love to have one. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ---Shane

Re: Rotary Cutter for L3830

Shouldn't be much of a weight differance, maybe a hundred pounds max? I don't have my loader book handy, but I think the LA853 was 548 plus the bucket. Much more than factory front weights... I think. I'll have to find my manual.

The 286 Bush Hog does look big on the L tractors to me. Its a little tight in the trees, but I like cutting even with my rear tires. In the future I may get a 5' for the woods. I can't run through the creeks with the 6' as easy, I can't lift it as high.

I have seen people lift there cutters up high with the 3pt. What are they doing to get them to lift the rear wheel like four feet? How high can you lift with it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Rotary Cutter for L3830

I run a Woods BB72 with my L4330 and love it. The 72" width makes it wider than the tractor's track with the R4's. I don't have any experience with the Bush Hog brand, but the Woods works fine in my horse pastures. I did some cutting yesterday in our 'back' pastures that have not been cut all season, so the grass was really high and it handled it. However, I had to go quite a bit slower than I do with the front pastures that are cut regularly. You should be OK with the BB72 should you choose to buy it.

Re: Rotary Cutter for L3830

Thanks, Glad to here that. I am currently still on the fence between the two. Just when I made up my mind to buy the bb72 by woods a dealer said the L3830 would have trouble with because it was heavier on the rear than the bush hog brand. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me since the lift capacity fo a rotary is the same as the L4330 which is 926 Lbs. So still trying to decide, but know I need a 72 inch and the bb72 looks great. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ---Shane
