Thanks Luke for the insights. I'm going to call tomorrow about the hydraulically driven rotating shear and see what I can find out re price, size tractor/best use and availability. I too have a ton of boulders to move around with either the grapple or the backhoe/bucket/thumb. I probably wouldn't use the shear for that because of possible blade damage.
What would you say is the largest diameter tree you've pulled so far?
Any dislikes with the puller so far?

Thanks,

CM

Let me know what you find out about the rotating one.

I've pull 10" DBH soft wood in damp soil. I cut those at 5' before pulling because I was worried about the weight once pulled.
Less than 8" DBH soft wood or ash pulls easily in any soil.
The few apple trees I've pulled >5" DBH required that I rip the lateral roots first with something like a subsoiler.

It has surprised me what it wil pull.

I have a Hy shear but it would not be good for stumping. I have had mine for several years and have had very good service out of it. It rotates 90 degrees to a vertical or horizontal position using hydraulics. Does a great job in my opinion.

Thanks, Luke. I'm bidding on a Titan shear currently. Don't know if I'll win the auction on flea-bay.:confused3:

Hi TBNers,
Anyone have one of these? 12" HD Rotating Tree Shear Attachment
I'm thinking of getting this attachment to pull trees, line them in a row, cut off the root balls, then stack and burn, or give away the stalks, and dump the stump/rootball sections.
Any thoughts, reviews, comments etc. greatly appreciated.

TIA,

CM
I have never seen a shear that will pull a tree. In the link you posted, I don't see where it says it will pull a tree. I have seen videos of that style rotated, cut part way into the trunk at the balance point and carrying it.

Keep us updated.

You're right. I morphed it in my mind into what I want it to be, regardless of what it actually is!:confused2::laughing:

I BOUGHT one on Ebay auctions! It should be arriving by early next week! YEAH!!
I'll let you all know how it works. I plan to chop and dice a few forests- especially with the excellent weather we've been having.

Take some video if you can. How much was the hydraulic rotating one you looked in to?

Lots of moola! $5,900 or so; but it's got a lot more parts than what I am getting. No way I could spend that amount for what I need to do, and the budget doesn't have the needed $ anyway. They looked up teh Titan with 5" cylinder that I'm getting and said it looked good. I agree on that.

No offense, but pulling trees other bigger than a few inches is wishful thinking for a 41 hp tractor. The root systems on (other than cedars) most trees are unbelievably strong.
