Rotella 5w-40 synthetic

Shouldn't be that hard. I have a 2002 Impala that I get 36 MPG highway and 32 city with. Good maintenance, high quality lubricants, proper tire inflation, not carrying a ton of unneeded junk and removing the lead from my right foot years ago goes a long way to getting high MPG.

My work car is a Chevy Cobalt (newer version of the cavalier) and it gets 32/33 mpg.. Being a 4 cyl I would hate to see how much less power a car would have to get it up another 4ish mpg..

My wifes Honda CRV (4 cyl) only got 25 around town and 28ish on trips.. the V-6 big brother got low 20's at best IIRC.. We are talking a 40% increase to get it from 25 to 36... IMHO that is a HUGE increase..

Too many computer guys coming out of college. Didn't take much to convince Detroit that if they used computers to regulate combustion, no one would be able to fix their cars in the yard anymore meaning more profits for the auto makers. We were fed a line of BS that this was the only way to go to reach CAFE standards. The Honda you make reference to was the CVCC engine. This was a stratified combustion engine that met emission standards without a catylitic converter. It had inlet tubes to allow a more complete and efficient burn and got 45-50 mpg in the Civic with a stick. I think it was recently inducted into Japans Engineering Hall of Fame.

I have a 2003 Impala that also does well on fuel economy, particularly using regular fuel and considering the size of the car. The only thing that is disappointing is that Chevrolet cut absolutely every corner possible in building these cars. Never in my life have I seen such poor quality and workmanship. Exactly how bad does a company have to be to fail to even clear coat the paint in the door jambs, under the trunk lid, under the hood and to use particularly poor quality interior materials? Although it runs well and gets admirable fuel economy, with only 43000 miles on mine I'm not sure how long I want to keep it. If Chevrolet took so many clearly obvious shortcuts in building the Impala, how many unseen shortcuts did they take? With that in mind, I won't use anything but the best lubricants and filters on the vehicle. I seriously doubt that it is built well enough to take much abuse. Heck, my seat heaters constantly go out, the automatic climate control system has been out 3 times, the cat converter has plugged twice, the transmission developed a problem to where it lost reverse and I've had 2 "half shafts" replaced in the steering column in only 5 years and 43k of easy, mostly highway, driving. It's never sat outside a single day since I've owned it, so the exterior looks fine still. I'm just worried what other shortcut by Chevrolet is going to bite me next. Maybe it's just GM suffering from such poor quality in workmanship, I don't know. I've never seen any other brand go so far as not finishing the paint job to save money. I think quality lubricants and filters will be the only thing keeping this car going.

Not sure what to say other than that sucks. I haven't even had to change a light bulb in mine. 60,000+ miles and still going strong. The only thing I have ever done to it is regular maintenance (meaning lubricants and filters). Just got state inspected last week and the pads still have about 1/2 life left to them. Looks like I got a mid week built car and yours was either a Monday or Friday car.

Rotella T 15w40: Best thing next to sliced bread! Used for years in mowers, gas pressure washers, tillers, cars (old and new), Trucks (Big rig and p/u) and tractors.

Rotella 5w-40 Synthetic: Life does get better with age! I changed to syn 5w-40 in my motorcycle and wow! Less tranny noise. The (old car) 96 Merc. Less engine noise! The wife's new 09 Taurus limited will have the rotella syn. after the free dealer oil change offer ends.

The only down side to the change to synthetic 5w-40 is motors seem to use/add alittle between changes. I just love the Rotella 5w-40 syn.

My 04 Pontiac GP about 63000 miles, regularly gets over 30 MPG highway, has not been in the shop since new, guess I better unload it. I have used Amsoil since new but can't afford it anymore, will be changing to Mobil1 or maybe Rotella 5W40.

Well, based on this thread I just picked up two gallons of Rotella 5W-40, and a NAPA Gold filter for my F-150.

Question is can I extend the drain intervals beyond the Ford-recommended 5k miles?

Mobil 1 extreme says 20k miles, but it is hard to find. Definitely a good deal, since it is only a little more expensive than the non-extreme Mobil 1. Warranty is not an issue for me, since it is long over. I just want good real-world performance.

What year is your F150?? Our 04 GMC, we were told we can run 10,000 kms/6213 miles (on dino at that), so I have be draining the synthetic at 10K, or a little over. What I want to know is, how long is the filter good for? So if you extend beyond that, should you choose a halfway point to put on a new filter??

I stopped using M! 9regular syn) because the oil life monitor dropped like a roack around 8,000kms. I am running Car Quest Synythetic (bottled by Irving Canada) and noticed a huge difference in Oil lif, and a difference in mileage.

Have you run Rotella 5w40 before??

Run the first batch for the 5000 miles Dave and then have OA done on it while you have the second batch in it. If OA comes back with A+ results...run it longer
