Not to cause a problem; but I always belived that emery paper left
a reidue on the surface. Could this maybe contribute to your yearly
clean up of your flame sensor? Steel wool might be a better choice.
Just trying to be helpful. I know it is no big deal to clean.

Thanks for the replies , and offers of help. Update.

This unit does not have a Flame Sensor.

It appears the combustion chamber has cracks , therfore altering the internal pressures the gas valve senses, therfore will not stay lit....

Manufacturer no longer makes replacement combustion chambers.

Still exploring options.

:D:D I do the same thing. The emery cloth lays right on the side of furnace so I can use it when ever the furnace won't come on and stay on.

That doesn't sound good. I was told about 5 years ago that if the combustion chamber was cracked that they wasn't allowed by law to change it. I don't know it that was right or not. It was an old furnace that was having the problem, so I just went ahead and replaced it. Does anyone know if that is right or not?

Jerry G - Don't know if that is right or not - but I do know the manufacturers sell replacement chambers/parts.

No that's not correct. I have replaced several cracked combustion chambers 1 cell at a time. as long as the manufactuer still makes the chamber they can be replaced You should have gotten another opinion

Dazed and Confused

Jerry G said "I was told about 5 years ago that if the combustion chamber was cracked that they wasn't allowed by law to change it."

I responded that the manufacturers make replacement combustion chambers , so I assume it is not unlawful to replace them !!!

I also followed up with a post that my decision was to replace my old furnance with a new furnace.

That decision was due to the fact that Rudd no longer makes the replacement combustion chamber for my unit , and that they actually had a recall on that series of furnaces (due to cracked combustion chambers) which I just found out about as a result of my unit's chamber cracking. Rudd offered me a $400 rebate to replace , so that is what I did.

All that to say I don't know if KenMac is talking to me or Jerry G ??

Either way no hard feelings , just did not want to leave anybody hanging !

That's the whole story and I'm sticking to it....

I was responding to jerry's post . Letting him know that the guy that told him it's against the law to replace a combustion chamber. Telling him to get another opinion. Would like to know who's law it's against as the manufactures do make replacement cells for furnaces
