Rural King

( #2 son and I hit our new Rural King store yesterday. It's in a previous K-Mart...)

I wonder if that is a trend. A Rural King just opened about 1 mile from my house in an old K-Mart building that went out of business in 1990. Being that I'm in a rural area, Rural King's parking lot has been full every day since it has opened. Also, they have sold out of all of their tractors within the first week, and are waiting for more to come in.

The Rural King in Logansport, IN used to be a Kmart. Another one in Princeton, IN looks like a Kmart building. I have also been to the one in Evansville, IN.
I have just realized that I have spent to much of my time in farm stores. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hey, it just dawned on me; the "original" Rural King in Evansville was in a closed K-Mart store. This new one just opened Oct 1st is in the other K-Mart store that had closed. Hmm, I think I'll go visit there now. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey, Rob. I didn't know about that. That last time I went to TSC the K-Mart building was still empty. I did see some skids of stuff in the old lawn and garden that I thought maybe TSC was using for overflow storage. Guess it was stock for the Rural King. I'll have to stop in there on the next rainy weekend. Thanks.

Do you remember about a decade ago when there was a Big R in the old Luann's building? That only stayed a couple years and was gone.

Hey, I got a Rural King insert in the paper yesterday morning. Looks like they have lots of stuff.

They did have a ton of stuff. One of the other posters refered to them as a redneck k-mart. I'd have to agree, not that that's a bad thing. Where was this Big-R you mentioned? The only one I remember was on 19 in Elkhart and it may still be there /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It was in an old store that used to have a double barn looking facad. It was called Louann's Value Store or something similar. I believe it was on the east side of old 31 (933) somewhere north of the state line. The next time I go up that way, I'll start at Cleveland and keep an eye out for it. Don't think I'll be going that way this weekend, though. The ND game will be too much traffic. My lovely wife gets to work concession stand at the stadium. They expect it to be a 12 hour day. That's a lot of hot dogs! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've heard rumors to that, too. I think I'll wash my tractor in the driveway while the game is on in the garage. It needs some TLC before winter. I need a new D/A sander. Maybe I'll pick one up at Rural King on Sunday.

Rural Kings corporate office is about 10 mile from my house. The owner lives right down the road from me and is a very good neighbor. He is also a farmer. I really enjoy shopping at their store. I bought a Caroni tiller there this spring and I have been very pleased with it. They seem to have a real good supply of parts for what they sell. We also buy a lot of clothes, boots, oil, bolts, etc. It is a store my wife and I both can enjoy shopping in. They also have a Internet store for those of you who don't live near one. The only thing I have not had good luck with is their tires but I know a lot of people buy them. I understand their tractors are Jinma brand. I don't know a whole lot about them.
