Rust getting bad all over my Kubota

/ Rust getting bad all over my Kubota #121
I just found out about Rust Check this year. I had three vehicles done. If done every year from new or less than three model years old, they offer a lifetime rust perforation warranty. The stuff is like thick oil and tacks up kind o like a waxy grease. Pressure washer doesn't even take it off. Only downside is the vehicles sit there and drip for a day or two, and you have to wash it several times with warm soapy water to get any overspray off the exterior panels. They spray the whole undercarriage, and inside every body panel. Seems like pretty good stuff, and might be a good idea on trailer and equipment that sees salt.

I have had the same problem with alot of equipment I resell. Tractors Snowblowers etc my personal tractor and blower.
I have painted many of them your right my 1969 Ariens blower had no rust but the 5 year old one has paint falling right off.
The big problem is they dip thie parts not powder coat. There is no primer then they oven dry it and it shrinks. It's like stretching a ballon over a curved piece of metal it never adheres to the surface.

I use aircraft paint remover and find rust under the paint.

It's either maintain with paint or have plastic that cracks and gets brittle in the sun. You just can't win.

Wow I'm shocked to read these problems. I had a 1974 Datsun Pickup that rusted away before my eyes. Sold it in '82 and it was in the junkyard about two years later - fine mechanically too! My '87 Dodge pickup has some added ventilation in places, but is still roadworthy - it has never spent a night indoors.

I doubt our tractors are going to last 40 years for the simple reason that there are too many of them - too many makes, too many models, too many different parts. It's not like when there were 300,000+ 8n's out there and they were pretty simple machines. Now every manufacturer makes a dozen different models, and changes them every couple years. 30 years from now, you'll have to have most parts made, or make 'em yourself. It's a shame.

The rusting, though, that's almost criminal. No excuse, and I don't buy the "recycled steel" stuff. Steel has been recycled forever, and that's not the culprit here. My Dodge pickup might have some Model A in if for all we know. I know it's cosmetic, and my tractor stays outside, but the gray plastic in the fenders has faded a lot. Looks bad, and there's not much can be done. I put some of that no-wax floor stuff on it and it seems to be holding out better, but there is no reason not to have decent UV protection on these materials. Seems everyone wants you to buy new every five years, and for $40,000, if they can get it out of you, too!

My Dad also bought a 1974 Datsun Pickup it ran great but had large rust holes by 1982 when he bought a 1982 S10 which rusted away too (he worked the line at the GM factory) Rust never sleeps!!

I am again going to ask again if any one with warranty coverage has went to dealer or kubota about rust?

I've always wondered if it's due to the new stuff is made from recycled steel that has been recycled hundreds of times with who knows what impurities in it when the older stuff may have been made with virgin steel.

The stuff that is rusting today:
Cheap paint and applied thin
low grade steel

Its not the steel, I make it. The impurities rise to the top of the steel bath than gets pored off, it called slag, than you take a test to check the elements in the steel,, add or subtract the elements you need.. steel is better now than ever.

I did not ask my dealer. In fact I just heard my dealer was recently bought out by the local rich guy just before ch 11 closed their doors............

It's recycled steel . The same with guns and tools. My main exposure
to uncoated steel is in shotguns . Around 1999 and afterwards , Perazzi guns
would rust easily compared to older models . The metal is high in
contaminants .

no it not, whan they make steel they use less moly and nickle..= cheeper steel.. I make it.. Less nickle less moly= less cost to buy.. not contaminants.. if its in the steel, they put it there.. Peirod...

Yes, I believe it is a conscious effort to save money by the top management to cut any n all corners by modern greedy man just because there yearly bonus size is more important than making a good product. AND we must not forget how planed obsolescence also is part of the modern corporation's master plan.

Example

Supposedly a son of Mr. Arens who bought out Gravely said when asked if they were going to continue the 8ooo series Gravely 4 wheel tractor. His answer was "we have no desire to make garden tractors that last 20 years".
