Jon Stewart takes a look at the bill....I found it interesting.

Jon Stewart Tackles Food Safety Bill Paranoia

Also dmccarty: don't think you'll find a Constitutional problem with what the Senate did - just an issue with House and Senate made rules...kinda like the fillibuster - not in Constitution.

Yeah but no fear of salmonella or E. coli from gamma irradiated products. I am aware there are some difficult to disprove theoretical safety concerns but personally I would be very happy to purchase irradiated hamburger so I could eat medium rare burgers and real Caesar salads again.

I would eat the irradiated food but many will not. The food stays fresher longer and less change of getting sick.

I no longer eat bagged leaf products either from the store or on salad bars. Many times I would eat this stuff and get sick. I just stopped eating it.

Section 7 - Revenue Bills, Legislative Process, Presidential Veto
All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

The Senate bill has taxes in their bill. They violated Section 7 of the US Constitution. If the Senate removes the tax generation portion of the bill they would not be in violation of the US Constitution.

I agree. The irradiation is a reasonable way to eliminate pathogens without altering food taste etc. It would increase longevity and reduce food waste too. Very cheap to do and could be done for food being imported right at the docks. Unfortunately the association with "nuclear" is a very high hurdle to overcome with regard to public acceptance.

I stand corrected on Constitutionality of the Bill process. I'll post again later after I get my foot out of my mouth. It does pay to do a little research before posting. At least I learned something today.

Keep your radioactive lettuce out of my salad!!!!!!!!!;) J/k

Seriously though...There would be MUCH less food borne illness, especially from "raw" foods if we did nuke it.. But theres far too much fear out there to ever see it adopted... at least if the word "Irradiated" is there...

I find it amazing that I was censored about posting S 510...and now it's accepted freely being posted.:confused2:
Natural News has a lot of information on this bill if you're so inclined.

I'd like people to understand the source of the problems and fight it there. Unfortunately, this is the more expensive way. That's one of the reasons irradiation came about. There is significant evidence that these processes destroy beneficial parts of the food. Look at the whole raw milk arguement. I'd rather that Big Ag not take garbage and add some chemicals, nuke it, preserve it in some toxic gas and then tell me that it's safe to eat. And this can happen at the same time Big Ag tells the government to shut down a real farm which is producing a good natural product in a safe manner.
