The real trick will be trying to find LSD fuel. Since the larger refineries are now prohibited from refining it, only the smaller ones will be the suppliers. This will severely limit it's availability (which is a good thing) and I suspect that it's price will increase significantly (supply vs demand). My guess is that the midwest farm belt will have LSD fuel but the rest of the country won't. But in 2 years it won't matter since LSD will go away altogether.

True, and most of the imported refined diesel fuel we get comes from Europe, where everyone has been using ULSD for a decade.

The new catalytic anionic zeolites they are using to make ULSD are incredible, you can actually just take the entire middle distillate out and run it right though the resin once and viola -> ULSD. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So, what is the difference in our diesel and European diesel? As I understnad it, we will still have issues bringing in european diesel engines because of emissions regulations.. Have we just jumped over the European market as far as emissions regulations go? Everything I hear points to diesel being a difficult market to capitalize on because of our new push toward lower Nox and particulate emissions.. It will be necessary to have urea injection(of some sort) to meet the reg's allong with the particulate traps and so forth, pricing the diesel alternative out of the market.. So, did we wait too late to bring diesels back to America? Just curious of what you guys think..

Europeans do not have the type of ecological niche that causes temperature inversions over large metro areas, so they are not that concerned about NOx emissions as here in the US where this is a major problem in different geographical climates around the county.

The Europeans are more concerned about soot particulates, particularly soot particles in the <PM5 size that are inhaled into the lungs and are taken up by the macrophages and Type II epithelial cells causing inflammation and possibly oncogenic potential in these cells. European passenger car diesels are already equipped with particulate filters.

Other than that, since the source of most of their crude is North Sea Brent and other similar high grade sweet crude, their diesel fuel is all straight cut high cetane with low aromatics.
