nope, started before that, i know that 3 months ago we got our first load of diesel that was ulsd, they said that it only takes a few gallons to contaminate an entire tractor trailer load so they had to start before it was required so it would be all flushed out by then

It would be very difficult to dillute the high sulfur crud down with enough ULSD to get it all legal from the previous contamination. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

last thursday i went to a short seminar on the ultra low sulfer diesel and they said that all it takes is 3 gallons of regular low sulfer diesel to make an entire trailer load,7,500 gallons, no longer meet the ultra low sulfer limit. at work our onsite fuel tank is 10,000 gallons and we started gettin ulsd about 3 loads back so they are figuring with the volume of fuel we use that it will be flushed out by the time its required. interestingly they said too that the new stuff has less btus per gallon so thus a loss in fuel milage will be expected. and lubricity problems are expected, they have tests that show it has less lubricity and there are companies that make lubricity additives to take care of this. only positive seems to be that it actualy has a slightly lower gelling point they say.

Of course, the main positive of ULSD is that there is 95% less sulfur.

There is 1% less BTUs simiply because the higher molecular weight aromatic hydrocarbons have been reduced by being broken down into more paraffins, which is also great because aromatics are low in cetane value anyways and removing them raises the cetane level.

There is no problem at all with the lubricity of ULSD either, it's added at the refinery to replace the polar hydrocarbons that were broken down during the extra hydrogenation. ASTM specs the lubricity specifically for ULSD.

A total WIN-WIN situation for everyone that isn't worried about where all their stinkin' sulfur went.....LOL

why so many duplicated post?

If you were around when the upgrade happened you would have seen Muhammad's explanation. He indicated that the dups would eventually be removed.
