One of the US Senators from my state, Senator Dan Sullivan, is touting a bill, S3135, which is an extremely short bill so anyone can read it in 2 or 3 minutes, that is supposed to somehow end the need for DEF in cold weather. I looked at the bill, quickly found on Google, and it certainly seems to not be all that helpful if I am understanding what I read. But I may be missing the point or intent. Maybe people smarter than me here can read this and recommend changes to the bill that could ensure the bill, if enacted, would be more helpful.

My not very informed view would be that a bill from this Senator (who is standing for re-election come November) in 2026 would have an above-average chance of being enacted and signed into law. BTW, in this state everyone knows their people in Congress on a first-name basis. Thank you.

I think it is designed to stop vehicles from going into limp mode (derated) when the DEF fluid freezes and the sensor say you are not getting any. I would guess that is an issue in the great white north when it's really cold.
Congress finds that—
(1) diesel vehicles are vital for critical transportation and emergency services in cold weather regions;
(2) in rural regions with prolonged freezing conditions, diesel exhaust fluid storage, supply, and system functionality are frequently unreliable and logistically impractical on a year-round basis;
(3) automatic engine shutdowns and power reductions due to emissions control malfunctions in extreme cold pose serious, life-threatening risks; and
(4) emissions safeguards under the Clean Air Act (42 U.S.C. 7401 et seq.) were never intended to jeopardize human safety or impede critical mobility.

This would
authorize covered manufacturers to suspend inducement-related engine derate or shutdown functions that are triggered by emissions control system faults when ambient temperatures are at or below zero degrees Centigrade and to specify that no party other than a covered manufacturer shall suspend those inducement-related derate or shutdown functions

Your profile does not state your state (location). Alaskya what it is, but I looked up Senator Dan Sullivan so now I have a clue...
