I was mowing with my 186D last night and wondering what problems I might have with gear selection. I have a 4 foot Bush Hog and am mowing a level pasture that is grass and some weeds, but not brambles or saplings. I am not after a golf course look, and am mowing a little high. My horses will trim the rest…

My 186D has the 9/3 Powershift and I am able to mow in 8th gear, dropping down to 7 as needed. Is that a problem? Should I be staying in the second range, or can I go as fast as I am able without bogging down the mower, or bouncing the operator too much…

I also have areas with hills and or brush, and gear down for those…

If I paint mine purple, will it go faster?

I don't know, I think the fastest colors are black or red, at least if you look at sports cars old men drive. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mike I have a 186D too. I like to mow in third gear second range or first gear third range depending on how thick the weeds...I mean grass is. The faster you mow the more stuff you leave uncut.
