Ever read the stats on which jobs are how dangerous? Farming/ranching is nearly as dangerous a profession as they list.

I worked for 2 insurance companies that listed The 3 Highest risk occupations as follows.

Mining I
Farming 2
Police and fire 3

Aviation is another high risk right up near these 3

Re: Safety Tips-Front End Loader

My brother wanted me to post the following.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask them if they can pick up a quarter on a smooth concrete floor with a
forklift.
They can not do it by pushing it (the quarter) against a wall or any other
fixed structure.
A gum or other stickey object, including a magnet, can not be used on the
forks.
It must be picked up on top of a fork and lifted high enough for someone to
reach out at shoulder height and pick it up.
If they want to know how it is done they can email me and I will tell them.
Re: Safety Tips-Front End Loader
Ok,
here's a shot,,
quarter on the ground, the end of the fork slightly on top of the quarter, back up, with the tip of the fork having some down pressure on the quarter, when the tip of the fork slides off the edge of the quarter, the quarter flops up on the top of the fork, like in tiddly winks!
Re: Safety Tips-Front End Loader
RE "pick up a quarter ON a smooth concrete floor" ...
A: You will need a large construction forklift for this that can angle its tines down significantly.
B: Find the smallest section of the floor as divided by the expansion joints. Push the quarter onto this small section.
C: Wedge the forks into the joint and lever the edge of that section of concrete up.
D: Slide forklift under concrete and lift free of floor to convenient height with quarter on top.
E: If the section is too large, or connected with rebar to adjacent sections, or otherwise is un-liftable by the forklift, you will likely need a larger forklift, or one that can be fitted with a breaker attachment.
Re: Safety Tips-Front End Loader
Well, have just went out in the warehouse and won 2 lunch bets using this technique.
Yep, works better than you would believe.
Last one I flipped a foot in the air to the middle of the fork and then lifted it up on the fork to hand it too the guy that lost the bet /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Great trick! Will use that one in the future I am sure.
Re: Safety Tips-Front End Loader
I win bets with people with that trick all the time. Fun once you get the hang of it.
