Couple things. Walk away from this deal and this dealer. Right out of the gate they have proven they are willing to try and screw you....what's gonna happen if you need service, or parts, or....you get the idea. Know when to quit.

Maybe years and years ago the "give me your best price and I'll decide yes or no" worked but not any more. No one is watching out for you except YOU. Do some research to find out what all the "extra" added on costs may be in a deal and then ask specifically about each to get to the bottom line price they are going to charge.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck to you.

Id tend to agree. But Does one salesman represent the attitude of the who dealership? Id feel better if it were taken to a higher level and then if the story dont chnage then make the determination that they dealership itself is at fault...

I have fortunately never had a dealer or salesman change a quoted price on me, if we had a firm verbal agreement. I did almost recently purchase a used compact wheel loader. Sales guy said he would sell it at $1500 below their asking price including a set of used front forks. The forks were not listed in the advertised price but new cost about 3K. Told him I would think about it. Called back 2 days later and he raised the price back to the advertised price and the forks were no longer included. In the meantime, he had several calls on the loader and other interested parties. I did not like what happened but I figure, I could have bought it then or I can buy it now at his original price. I did not buy the wheel loader. I did call annonomously 1 week later and the machine had been sold.

I did by a skid steer trencher once at an agreed upon verbal price. It was not new but I could tell it had almost no use. Didn't really need it that badly but I knew the price was really good. The owner of the business made the deal. Went back later to pick it up. I told the sales guy/manager (who really runs the business) what I paid for it and he could not believe my price. He went and checked on their cost. I had many other dealings with the manager and understood his reluctance to sell it but he kept the deal. The manager chuckled and said "I need to keep the Bill (the owner) from making sales." I am pretty sure it was below their cost. Inretrospct, I believe the owner had this like new trencher confused with an older rental unit which had a lot more wear on the teeth.

Regardless, you were canceling a deal made with Mahindra, and the Kioti salesman was canceling the deal with you. How are either any less fair than the other?

Not saying the Kioti sales guy was lilly white here either. Good luck.

(could edit the name of the dealer off your post, as TBN isn't a place to air out the dirty laundry. There may be another side to this and the dealer doesn't have a chance to respond)

Oh man, never, ever, ever take the side of a dealer on a purchase-whats wrong with you? All salesman are about to make a buck-your buck and there was nothing, absolutley nothing wrong with what he did. Too bad you can't find another dealership to deal with cause I would drop them both in a heartbeat.

You are a veteran member here so you have been around awhile.

I ask this with total respect can you give me some ideas on how to buy a tractor? I was honest upfront with every salesman I spoke with I thought. I told them all I WAS buying a tractor and I WAS buying where I got the best price. How is that tire kicking, and how much more serious could I have been. What is wrong with price shopping?

I never played one dealer against the other. I am sure they never spoke to each other. I had made up my mind on either a Kioti or a Mahindra depending on price and distance from me. I read on this site for several days getting some ideas of what was available and what people liked or disliked.

I was given a written quote in an email (which I posted)then when the Kioti salesman found out I was going to spend more money at the Mahindra dealer Mr. Kioti upped his price. I dont think I am the bad guy in any part of this! Read my first post.

I await your reply,
Richard

I don't think the Kioti original price was changed just to match the higher Mahindra price. I suspect the salesman made a mistake when he initially calculated the price of the Kioti and realized it later. That is why the owner is also backing the sales guy. I honestly, do not believe they are raising the price just to get more $$$. That would be risky on their behalf because they may loose the sale completely, which is what just happened.

Like it or not, very few dealers are going to make a deal if they are loosing a lot of money due to an honest error. Would they rather loose $2000 on a honest mistake or instead have no sale whatever and loose nothing? I think they will choose the no sale. How much was the second price above the first quote? You might consider asking them for the best possible price given the circumstances. They may still give you a great deal to ease any hard feelings. Did you check the prices with any other Kioti dealers to see what others would sell the same tractor?

I don't care what anyone else says-your not a bad guy and you were right in trying to get the best bang for your hard earned money-simple as that. Someone sais here that all salesman lie-I apolagize to any salesmen here ahead of time but this is the truth-doesn't make you a bad person. It's part of their profession-they are there to make the dealership money so they can get paid or they are on a commision. Salesmen care nothing about you-the customer, their job is to sell you any illusion to make you happy so you make the purchase. You autta whatch a salesman try to buy from another salesman-it's tooo funny :)

an old salesman told me years ago----son you can have just as much fun tripling your money as you can doubling it----isn't the sales business fun---all profit and no cost-----dream life----until you have a customer that never makes a mistake and never tells a "little" lie-------just saying----he also said that every 3rd customer was like that -----hope you were just the second customer that day!!!!!:)

What the dealer did is bad business. He showed no honour.
The dealer (owner) should have explained the mistake in detail and offered his best compromise. After all, if TRW isn't his customer, he will be someone else's customer. That's business.
I've had to suck up these sort of mistakes. It's the only fair thing to do. I consider it an education expense. :) I make it back in return business.
I had a salesman once rip on me for not giving him a chance to drop his "best price" when he found out he did not get the deal. I ripped back for wasting my time with his first quote when it wasn't his best as I asked for.

Go to another dealer where they don't have car salesmen. Get a firm quote with all the rebates and adders for your finance arrangements. Don't get them to order it unless you are 100% committed.

Yep, you need to have good relations with the dealer 'cause one day you will be wanting to buy some implements or get service. Don't buy from a place where they don't know jack and are into big wheelin' and dealin'.

(I just went back to dealer where we bought our new tractor and he knocked extra $ off our first implement purchase. They only sell what they have in stock and don't gripe about delivery of reasonable distances.)

Don't worry about changing your mind with a salesman. Their job is to sell and keep you sold. If they don't, it is their failure. You cannot let a salesman down, either they did their job, or they failed. All of them want your money, one of them will get it. It is your hard earned money. I don't agree with anyone who thinks you owe a salesman anything. There is no deal until it is sold. You owe the business your payment if and when they complete the sale. If large ticket sales was easy it would be self service at WalMart. A good salesman will keep your trust and convince you their deal is the best value. Salesman come and go like the seasons. The old dealers with white haired salesman that have 20 year old plaques on their walls know what they are doing. Hungry car and RV salesmen are floating around like oil in the gulf trying their luck with whatever product they can purvey at the moment. Some will make it. Take your email to the owner, not the salesman and ask him to honor it (if you want it) and then shut up and let him talk. You will learn all you need to know about that dealership in the next 30 seconds when that owner opens his mouth. If the salesman isn't a blood relative he is probably already on the endangered specie list anyway so stick with the owners words.

Should have read more of the thread. I see you did see the owner and got your answer. They won't last.

One other thing. Any dealer that has ever tried to dissuade me from buying elsewhere because they won't give me top notch service support (that is reserved for their direct customers), I thank my stars for them clarifying that. All competent dealers make a very good profit on warranty work and service. If they don't, then they don't know how to run a service center and I don't want my tractor or car wrenched on by knuckleheads. If the service center is not a profit center, then the business will tank anyway. A smart business would say, if you don't buy it from me, at least allow my excellent service department to fullfill your needs locally here. A good shop will eventually convince you to switch your retail source. Every Harley dealer I wheel into treats me like I am the best thing that happened to them and they will cheerfully perform any service, warranty or other I desire and thank me for it.
