Have to agree with beenthere. He pulled the same switcharoo that you pulled on the Mahindra guy. Of course, two wrongs don稚 make a right, but it痴 a little hypocritical to be mad at the Kioti guy for doing the same thing you had just done.
Not sure how a customer negotiating the best price he can is a bad thing

it is business

Don't quote a price you won't honor

had a car dealer do it once and I've never been back nor have any of my friends

dealer has obligation to honor quote

customer has no such obligation

once customer takes possesion he has obligation to pay

Been there done that ...
I quoted out a cab tractor at a rops tractor price. The customer did not buy from me as he said my price was a little to high for their budget.
But on the flip side I had a cocky Harley salesmens make a statement to me one day...
I bought my wife a new Harley and I spotted a awesome looking bike sitting back in their service area. I inquired about it. The salesman told me they are a special edition bike and they are ordered in for retailed sales. I asked the price, he told me in a (you ain't got enough money to buy one of those voices)
If you want one I will sell it to you for X amount I didn't jump right away. So we went back out to finish up the paper work on my wifes bike and he wrote me a legit quote and handed it to me and he said if ya want it call me.
Well I did some looking around and talked to a couple friends and long story short. I went back and put a deposit on the bike.
Here's the kicker....the bike came in 4 months later and we sat down to do the paper work and my wife noticed that the monthly payment was ALOT more than we had on our paper.
So see looked over the contract and the new purchase price was $8,500 more than our quote.
They called some other guy into the room and he said sorry but this is the price of the bike. Sorry I don't think so here is what I got....So we waited and then someone else came in the room and the guy said to me that the salesmen made a mistake and they would give me 8k more than what I was going to buy the bike for...I said no thanks I'll take the bike at my agreed quoted price.
They let me have the bike for my quoted price and after we were done with the paperwork the gentleman offered me 10k more than what I purchased the bike for. I declined it and said thanks anyway.
If anyone knows anything about Harley, they know that they sell for LIST price and when you have a specialty bike they will get even more on top of list.
I knew I was getting a once and a life time deal!

If I make a mistake I WILL HONOR IT.
If my people make a MISTAKE I WILL MAKE GOOD OF IT!

But I did sell cars for many years. I never gave a person a written price on any vehicle I had in stock.

Are you saying folks bought from you without seeing the price in writing? If you could not offer me a final bottom line, drive out quote in writing then I would not do business with you.

On another note, way back yonder when Isuzu Rodeo's first came out I took a test drive in one and considered trading. I had my young kids with me at the time and I remember some discussions we had later about the process.

We test drove, liked it, got a quote from the salesman....no, no deal. But wait he says let me go talk to my manager. He comes back with price list in hand, good news, my manager has agreed to sell the car below what we paid for it. Here is the list showing what we paid for it. How about a deal?

I said No, no deal. I would hate for you to lose money and go out of business. It is just like commercials on TV. They think we are idiots.

Some dealers have a odd way of looking at selling. I know a fellow that had a deere dealership for many years. He explained to me how approached every potential sale: 1--His initial position was to price the product at list and throw in free local delivery. 2--If that did not make the sale, he would come off the list price, to a predetermined bottom dollar position and still throw in free local delivery. 3--He said usually that made the deal, however, if the potential customer started to run the product or dealership down, he would take away free delivery, if the customer bragged how much cheaper the dealer was in the next town over, price went back to list, firm and if the potential customer continued to badmouth the product, he would actually make a mental decision to not sell to the potential customer. He said, if he made a sale to a fellow with that attitude, that someone was going to be mad after the sale and he had rather the customer be mad than himself. I guess with that way of selling, it explains why he is no longer in business. News of a bad deal spreads a lot quicker that news of a good deal. Ken Sweet

No I never wrote down a price. If you wrote it down OK but i never write downa a price if I did give them a price it wass for today and today only. I really tried to not neogiate a price until you were ready to buy. Why waste time unless you are talking to a buyer. All I was doing in giving my best price was giving my competion something to beat and beleive me you can beat any legitmate deal on price.

The cost prIce is which cost? There are more than one you know. I haven't been the business in awhile but you have cost, cost less advertising and cost less the 2 and 5% hold back. I would of loved to sell cars for cost. Because we got paid to advertise, and a bonus for selling cars at the end of the year.

New car sales is not where you find the profit. Financing is a good place to make a profit. Most states allow the dealer to charge one % and sell it to a bank at a lower % so you keep the difference. Another place is parts. Just for the fun of it price out a car part by part. You would be surprise what the profit in parts is. I now on dealer in NC who has the state contract for ##### parts. He sells them for $% over his cost and makes a fortune. Another place for profit is service. Do you actually think the mechanic gets $65.00 per hour. No new car sales is ony a place to line up more profit. Another great place to make profit is in used cars.

By the way, I can name the dealership I worked for because the family sold out to another group. The dealership I sold for was Reedman Motors in Langhone, PA We stocked over 1,000 cars at all times in the 1970' and early 80's from 11 different franchises. WE sold cars we didn't talk to shoppers. By the way my my father-in-laws was one of the brothers who owned the dealership.

PS Don't take this wrong but you will never out smart a good salesman or dealer.

I witnesed a situation with a snobby salesmen when I was in my teens. I had a friend who's family was very well off, but you wouldn't know it by meeting them.

I was at his house one Saturday and his dad decided he was going to trade in his wife's Chevy Bel Air for a better car. He asked my friend and I if we wanted to go with him.

We went to the local Caddy dealer and he picked out a nice Sedan DeVille for his wife and asked the salesman what kind of a trade in he'd get on the Bel Air. The salesman gave him a really low ball price and when questioned about it since the car was only 2 years old and had only a couple thousand miles on it, he looked at my friends dad and said "Well after all, you are trading up to a Cadilac."

My friends dad reached in his pocket and pulled out a big wad of $100 bills, looked the salesman in the face and said "No, I'm now trading up to a Lincoln." He turned on his heel left the Caddy dealer and went down the road and paid cash for a Lincoln.

Of course not, for even with all the internet google ?facts? about car prices, etc. the buyer never knows all the cards the dealer holds, how many tickets he has called in, or can call in if three more cars are sold.

What gets me these days is people fall for the 0% interest for 60 months or 10,000 cash back.
