You mentioned that your cable bill plus Internet was running 100 bucks or so. I think you must have the high speed roadrunner service. Are you thinking of going back to dial up speeds or can you get DSL service.

I am now on Direct-TV because where I moved did not offer cable. I had to go back to dial up for three months and it almost killed me as much of my work involves using the Internet/mail. I finally got DSL service and life is good again. If you rely on your computer connection or enjoy the speed its worth considering.

DirecTV.
I've had it since 1993.
The only cable in my life is the cable from the dish to the receiver! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am going to keep the powerlink for the internet service for a while until I get some more money to buy the equipment for dsl. You are right I do not want to go back to dial up

I started the earlier thread on this topic and the members offered some really good info. I'm not sure that it pushed me one way or the other as far as satellite providers. I always wanted Directv so that i would have access to the NFL games. Nothing against Dish I just wanted the ability to get the games although the Dish DVR did tweak my interest.

The problem is that Directv keeps pushing back the launch date for local channels in my area. It was supposed to be last fall and now they say early spring (maybe).

In the end, I stuck with cable. The cable internet is faster than my dsl at work. I upgraded to one of the digital packages and now pay a little over $100 per month. If it weren't for the four Baltimore stations that I get through my cable company, I would have dumped Adelphia long ago.

Adelphia isn't too bad until you have to call them. I think they have one telephone customer service rep for the entire company. I usually hang up after I've held for 30+ minutes.

Anyway, when I was looking at dsl, Verizon was the only supplier in my area. They usually offered a special that included a free dsl modem (1 year contract) so the equipment cost wasn't really a factor. Verizon

The cost of the dsl and the satellite was going to be about the same as cable and internet so rather than change I stayed put. I'll see what happens after they hit me with one or two price increases.

We had a pretty nasty storm blow through Ohio today and it didn't affect my Satellite TV reception. However the build up of ice on my DirectWay dish that serves my computer was knocked off line. So here I sit with a dial up connection. Tomorrow after some of the ice subsides I'll get the pole trimmer out and knock the ice off the blasted dish thats on the roof, too cold tonight. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Maybe come spring I'll get some heater tape on the dish to de-ice it automatically. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

kiphorn, We keep hearing the same old story also. We started with primestar until direct bough them out. Have stayed with direct in hopes of getting locals. Dish had them last summer from Lexington. Didn't happen this fall and this spring maybe. Found out the local channel will be in Charleston ,Wva.. That was the breaking point for us. Mom has already changed over and I honestly like it better probably due to her local and the programming on the just above basic package. We are holding off until we move into the new house this spring. The only difference I have found is that the actual dish had to be placed a little higher due to the hill behind her house. Besides that they are the same or little difference. We have been pleased with direct until this run around with the local channel. I think alot has to do with your local and regional satelite providers. But that's my take on the situation. Good bye direct and hello dish.

Well, as I thought was going to happen Dish network has come out with yet another price hike today /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. That brings the cost of basic and the upgrade to bbc, discovery etc. to $45.00 per month NOT including any movie channels or other programming, hmmmm...... approx. $550 smakers a year for the more of the same drivel, over and over.

Gone. gave it the flick, no more, voting with my feet. Eat my shorts tv excutives, I will play your games no longer!

There that said, Now I can focus on other thinks.

Well, yes I rant and rave, but I do have a limit. And I guess that I don't think that $550 bucks a year is what I should have to pay to watch people help clean some one else's house when they can't even manage to trough out the trash, or have some one tell me that watching someone eat worms is interesting, Heck Gomer Pyle was a rocket scientist compared to some of these "People".

Ya know Twinkle_toes I wonder where we are going sometimes.

I think that is why most of us are here, avoiding the other stuff.

We may at times bicker, argue and have a lot of fun with each other on this forum, but we are not buying into that Cr**.
