Now you see why we charge so much for a service

Let's hope it is not because it takes 45 minutes to screw in a drain plug.

First option:
I don't know if this trick works when dealing with strong magnets, (or weak oppositional thumbs  ), but if you try turning the plug into the hole in the opposite direction to get the threads to line up- then start screwing the plug in the correct direction; that trick works for a lot of things that need threads to line up.

Second option:
Or you could just remove the magnets and then drop them in the fill hole after putting the plug back in and see if they reattach themselves to the plug after adding fluid to the reservoir in question:eek: NOT! don't do what I just said, unless you want to pay Wallace or some other dealer a lot more time and money than a drain plug install!

Right on, for $8 you can get a big 5-6 gal drain pan at TSC. That will lull you to sleep since it is big,---- but not quite big enough ---for the 6-7 gals that comes out of the tractor.

This can become a real problem if your drainpan isn't huge enough to hold the entire sump's oil charge... If you can't get the threads to catch then you won't be able to stop the drainage = major overflow.

Might as well get the wife to videotape this while you're at it! Be sure the audio is turned up real loud, too.

Well, I guess I'm glad I didn't know about this problem as I have had no trouble rethreading the HST drain plug on my DK40se. I'll try to forget the warning before I do it again:). I do tend to "reverse" thread most bolts to line them up so maybe I just was anticipating Coyote's advice.

I do appreciate the issue Highbeam brings up with regard to overflowing a used oil recepticle but found a nice solution at ?Northern Tools: 17 or 18 gallon wheeled oil drainage reservoir that not only holds all the fluids from a years worth of oil and HST oil changes but also has a spot for filters to drain and several places to safely store drain plugs at the same time. Really a pretty handy device for about $100. I cannot find the same model in the current catalog but there is a similar but smaller version for about the same price: SPX Solutions Automotive Transfer Tanker, Model# 1577 | Low Profile | Northern Tool + Equipment

Nice thing is that it can be stored either upright or flat and at least with wheels it is easy to move around even when full.

What you need to do is thread the plug in when your drainpan gets full, go dump the drainpan, and then finish the lube drain. If you can't get the threads to catch then you won't be able to stop the drainage = major overflow.

Ah...yes...well, this did occur(my drain pan is about 4 gal), but the magnets actually held the plug in place with a minor drip, while I dumped the pan. I got just shy of 10 gals out, so I had to dump 3 times.

Reversing, cursing, nursing...ect......nada:D Next time I will take a whiskey break & see it thast helps. I'm telling y'all I felt like I should have been wearing a helmet & waiting for the short bus........

I've owned my CK27 for about 10 months. Did the 50-hour service back in the summer...had no problem at all with the plug. Newbie luck?

yeah the oil spill due to the magnets on the plug in my garage rivaled the Exxon Valdez spill. Just stupid on my part.
