I would not use high temperature grease, you specifically want to use a flowable grease with the nlgi number of 0 or 00. That is commonly referred to as corn head grease.Yeah I'd want to see and hear it turned on. As mentioned fill the gear box up with a high temp grease (like used in a grease gun) and forget the leaks.

If you use regular grease like in a grease gun it will pack up on the sides and will not lubricate the gears, the flowable grease will flow back down onto the gears and will lubricate them.

I'd much rather have the old beat up bush hog over a cheap Countyline from TSC.
I do not disagree and I like to buy quality old iron and fix it myself. Having typed that, I thought that I read that Country Line is a decent brand?
