I did that once, but didn't use the fuse method. I was quite satisfied how well it worked. I used just a small amount of starting fluid and a BBQ lighter. Had to try several times. The next time I tried it, never could get it to work.

That method with the fuse looks like it works a lot better but maybe wouldn't want to do it out in the forest! Thanks for posting.

Heres another thats more like my experience.

Good video, SODO. I have tried this method, too, and never got it right. I need more practice, I guess.

Note the guy in the video had to try a number of times to get it right, too.

I agree with him about the straps....I have done it that way, too, but it concerns me about the additional
tension it puts on the strap. I do NOT try to release the strap until I have let air back out of the tire.

With the fire method, having the schrader valve out of the stem, and lots of air coming in is a very important
part of the procedure.

I have done this numerous times with considerably more success I might add. I don't use starting fluid though it will work. I use propane because it's what I have. The bonus is that propane sinks in air so it's naturally going to go into the tire. If I have a failure where the bead does not seat I blow air into the tire to provide fresh oxygen as there is none left in the tire after it's all burnt up from the failed attempt. Other than that he does everything the way I generally do it.

I think it would be wise to point the valve stem away, in case it blows out of the hole. Or it should be clipped into an air hose.
