I am wanting to get one or the other but cant afford both. I do not have a lot of driveway to maintain but would like something to keep on the back of my tractor with a front end loader. I am not sure which one would give me more bang for my buck or which one would be all around more useful. Just looking for suggestions.

I am a big fan of rear blades. With that said and you can only afford one, it is pretty hard to beat the versatility of a box blade. I would say that overall you will get more accomplished with a box blade. ;)

Good luck

I am new to owning a tractor and FEL so could you please elaborate a bit on the advantages of one over the other? My tractor is a Mitsubishi MT4201FD which is 50 horse and its a 4x4 as well.

What about a back blade with side boards?

A lot depends on what it is that you plan on doing. You mentioned that you did not have a long drive and that is one of the most common areas to be using a rear blade. If your ground is hard, it is nice, maybe even necessary to have the rippers that most box blades have to be able to dig into the ground. Typically a box blade will weigh a little more than a rear blade and the rear blade will be hanging out a bit father than a box blade. You had said that you wanted something hanging off of the back and I assume that was for loader work. Maybe if you can state some of the things that you want to be doing that we will be able to give you some better informed suggestions. ;)

Well i bought the tractor more for pushing/pulling around non running vehicles and to use the FEL for picking up car parts/engines/stuff in general as well as snow removal.....if we ever get more than a couple inches of snow again that is. I do have a circle drive that is maybe 40 yards long by 20 feet wide that gets rutted up sometimes with a lot of rain, doesnt seem to matter how much sand and gravel it gets it still ruts up. Other than that i dont really have any ongoing need for doing much dirt work. Its a situation of which would be better to have on hand to cover the most "what if" situations and future unknown projects as well as acting as a bit of weight to offset the FEL.

Well, with that said I would get a rear blade. It sounds like you have no real ground work to do at all. And although you have a small drive, it sounds like that is about all that you have to take care of and a rear blade is FAR superior to remove snow than a box blade is.

Just my opinion, others will vary. ;)
