Now i used to use a bark buster and the auger head broke off. Does anyone know where to find replacement parts even though they were recalled years ago?

This is one of the safer reincarnations I've seen of the screw type splitter. Someone posted it on the hearth.com forum a few days ago.

We already have a splitter but I agree with the poster that commented on having 1 less piece of equipment to maintain. If I were to use one of these I wouldn't wear gloves or loose clothing....less chance of an accident imo.

Years ago I (we) had one that bolted to the back axle of a pickup. You jacked the truck up, took the wheel off and bolted this rig on in place of the wheel.
(You had to make sure you didn't have positraction on your truck! :p)

Of course just like any other tool they can be dangerous if you don't watch what you are doing. It used to bother me to push the block of wood into the screw with my knee, but I used it for several years without getting hurt. I think one reason I didn't get hurt is because I was afraid of it and respected what it could do if you pushed your knee or leg into the screw.

But, then again sometimes you had to be ready to jump into the truck to take it out of gear if things got stuck and the truck started to lift off the jack.

It sure did a good job on that stringy old American elm and it was easier than using a maul, wedges, and an axe!
