There will be posts here for a week debating the use of teflon tape. I will not be participating.
..........
>only use it on tapered threads
>don't cover the front/top of the threads
>Teflon need to be properly stretched
>wind the Teflon tape on, by turning the male threads the way you screw it into the female....make sense??
You should also be aware of the purpose of the tapered thread. It was not designed to be used many many times. Things like over tightening and galled threads, may never get a leak free connection. You may have to get a new tapered thread end on the hose, and or a new QD.
Just curious about the residual sealant when you have to break the fittings apart. Especially the inside threads.
It just turns dry inside the threads (anerobic-lack of air hardens it up).....doesn't cure as hard as regular loctite......can be scratched and blown out...
not starting anything but this shows that any type of sealant can contaminate a hydraulic system...tape does not have the market cornered on causing posssible system failures...
prudent use of tape (holding back from last thread) is about the same as using paste type sealants/lubricants...
My assumption is...most contaminations of user addressed systems by sealant debris occur when original connector fittings are reworked etc...
...it can be difficult to remove debris from ports on valves that can not be inverted to keep fragments from dropping into the valve bodies...
JMO but if I got the chance...I would vote for all ORB ports on everything like valves, cylinders, pumps etc....and all flare (JIC) on hoses/tubes , QD's etc...
