Search word length

Didn't see this discussed yet, please excuse if it's a repeat...

I know vBulletin is configured by default to limit searches to words greater than three letters, but it's really quite a handicap on technical sites like this. Many common terms/abbreviations are three letters...HST, GST, MMM, TSC etc.

I realize modifying the search index to include thee letter words/phrases theoretically has some server impact, but the sites where I've seen it implemented didn't seem to suffer. Any chance it could be considered here?

I believe it is a repeat! Not your fault though. Last time it came up, the admins said they'd change it ... never happened. The search is worthless since the upgrade.

That's easy... just expand your vocabulary to four letter words and you'll be fine!

I also find the search feature on the improved TBN (3 letters, by the way) much less valuable than the search feature on the previous version of TBN. We can all improve our future use of vocabulary, but how do we upgrade all the rich TBN history that is so intertwined with 3 letter words, such as: CUT, MMM, FEL? Can the search engine be changed/improved/tweeked to recognize 3 letters?

Yup...sorta.

But, it appears to only apply to posts made in the last couple days. Perhaps you need to kick off an indexing job for it to pick up older posts?

On rare occasions, original thought is eclipsed by mere popular music. This is one of those occasions. To quote Jack Ingram's current, (country) well played song "Love You": ... "theres only one four letter word that'll do, LOVE you".
