Hi Guys,

Can anybody suggest a source for these pins. I'm located in Manitoba.

I have the RPHD model but my operators manual list the same shear bolts for HPHD and SPHD. The manual calls for Cap Screw part # 00999418.
This bolt is for the auger. The next page says to not use a fastener harder than Grade 2 which I believe would be a machine bolt rather than a cap screw.

What grade of oil for the gear box and where might I but the bolts? Thanks

My manual specifies #2 grease for the gearbox and you can purchase grade 2 bolts at your hardware store.

I've only found grade 5s or 8s in the hardware stores, will grade 5s be ok?

I have toyed with that idea for lots of years. From the negative side, my JD round baler specifies a ¼" grade 8 for a shear bolt. My mowers usually use ½" Grade 2. The grade 8 snaps and the grade 2 smears but also takes hits that would break the 8 since it's higher tensile and more brittle. apparently the baler has more things that can tear up than the mower and your post hole digger.

The other thing I found was that a 2 is easier to locate to punch out and clear the hole. The 8 is hard to find.

So, the 5 is in the middle...maybe the best of both worlds.

I would use a 2 and 5 indiscriminately to answer your question.

While you are on the subject, my digger has the shear bolt on the input shaft and it's a pain to change. What I started doing was to use one bolt to hold the auger to the output shaft of the gearbox rather than have bolts in all 3 slots. Lots easier to find and fix when sheared. Yes I know the torque is higher and rpms slower on the output shaft but even with that, the single bolt seldom shears.

Thanks for the advice. All seems to be working well now.
