Transit, I can't find any info on the Honey Ham fryers. Can you provide a link? Thanks.

Mmmmm, honey ham..........

I like Ham; I find it a little too salty for my taste. Too many cooks have a heavy hand with the salt.
About five years ago I was lucky to get tickets to an Emerald, show. My date and I could not sample a thing, too salty. Every time he added another ingredient to the pan, in went the salt. Emerald took notice of me passing off his treats. Once I pointed out that he was spoiling what would have been delicious, others in the audience chimed in.

Emerald, keep your day job.

Yep, I like ham, too, and then I'll be thirsty the rest of the day.:D

And some 44 years ago, when we got married, I had to get my wife to quit pouring the salt on so heavy in everything she cooked. So she did, but I think everyone in her family pours the salt on everything at the table before they even taste it.

Those videos are well worth watching for anyone contemplating frying turkeys. I paid a little more for my turkey fryer because it has that larger, or flared, top few inches, a faucet type drain, and the "cooking stand support ring" (the pot cannot slide or fall off the cooking stand as in the UL video, but of course the entire rig could be turned over). I think they all come with a poultry stand, thermometer, and grab hook. Mine also came with a lid, boiler basket, a fish basket, and a steaming stand.

In other words, I bought the "safest" one I could find. But even so, I still consider it to be a very dangerous piece of equipment and use it as such.

Yes, by the time you think you are in trouble it is too late. Even with all the safety features the fryers are too easy to tip over. Those grab hooks are much too short, hands and legs too close to being splashed with 350+ deg oil. One joker has flip-flops.
Some fast food places do not have fryers because of the $$$ insurance.
On Home Shopping Network they were pushing kitchen deep fryers. Just too dangerous.

I remember a news report; grandma was cooking at the dining table with an electric fry pan. Her grandson was running around the table and snagged the power cord, dumping everything on him. I am sure she had done this alone many times, it takes one unguarded moment.

When I dine out I ask for no salt. Strangely, they may not add salt to my dish, but some of the ingredients have been prepared with salt. All in all, the dish is fine, could you imagine if I had not asked for, no salt?

Of course I don't wear flip-flops anytime, but yes, I'd want some real shoes on, and of course I sure wouldn't fry turkeys wearing shorts instead of long pants. If they made the grab hooks much longer, you'd have to hold the weight of the turkey too high for some people. I used to wear welding gauntlets to handle that grab hook, but the last couple of years, just heavy leather work gloves; no way I'd handle that grab hook bare handed.

My wife and I were in Home Depot this afternoon and I noticed they have an indoor, electric, infrared, oilless turkey fryer. I wonder how well it works, but don't want to spend $99 plus tax to find out (regular $139 the sign says).

Come to think of it, what do you do with all that oil after your done, store it for next year?

A 25 lb turkey at arms length could be a problem for some, good point.
