selector valve problem

OK, now I am stumped. I thought I had it figured out. I wonder if when they give a max flow for a valve if the are measuring the flow through one port or two. This might be a question to ask SC since this valve is manufactured for them.

that is a very good point that i had not considered. it may actually flow a total of 15GPM. By having -8 inputs and outputs you (i) would expect more flow than 7.5GPM. maybe your right 15GPM in and 7.5 out the two workports....thanks for the thought...........al

What size are the hoses for the loader. The size of the hose can give an idea on how much flow it has. I know it is more money, but SC has the same valve in a larger version.

FEL hose is 1/2 inch, boom and dump/curl.

When you guys hooked up the valve, did the bucket curl rate change any? Even if your pump can pump 17 GPM, most of the time, you are not using the full flow because the time to curl is short, maybe 10 seconds for a full curl. When you say the relief is activated, are you talking about the work port reliefs, or the pump relief?

I am thinking like J J .The relief valve on the loader control valve should open before it bogs the engine. I think I would remove the selector valve and hook the hoses back up the way they were originally and see if the loader functions properly. Did you flush your new hoses before you installed them.I am wondering if there is some foreign matter stuck in either the selector valve or the loader control valve.

what i am hearing is a loud clunk under my right foot, that is the location of the loader valve (cab tractor). as supplied from kubota the dump/curl action is very, very fast. maybe 5 seconds from full curl to full dump and slams aginst the stops. its ok to me if the curl/durl slows down some but not the relief valve opening and the motor trying to stall. as i posted earlier: with the selector valve off the tractor and the dump/curl hose spliced back together with jic/jic unions the loader acts just like it was as supplied from kubota. the restriction is/was the selector valve....al

jj: with the selector valve in place the dump/curl works very slow. maybe 30 seconds from stop to stop, relief valve clunks at the start of movement along with loading the engine hard. all of this has been done with the engine at idle.....al

i blew out the hose with air before i installed them. had the problem, removed hose and blew out with air again, took the selector valve apart and found no trash or casting flash, put it all back together, same problem. started this thread. reattached hose and opperation is normal now without the valve....i still think the valve is bad, wont flow rated GPM, OR is too small for the job........al

Al, as you have stated I think you have a bad or to small of a valve. You have eliminated every thing else. I would ask SC for a different valve. I think I would also ask about going to the larger valve.

This is just a thought. I seem to remember that some solenoid valves had a manual release on them. Do you remember what the top of the solenoid looks like. Is there a cap, and is there a twist knob of some kind. If it is , screw the spool all the way open, on the grapple circuit. Try working this spool back and forth to the limit. There may be something preventing it from opening all the way, and reducing flow. Did you say that you had taken the spools out and inspected and cleaned them? That relief valve should not be going off for the work port for the FEL, because any flow to the grapple should keep the pressure low enough to keep it from opening.

Have you put a gage in any of the circuits? That will let you see the operating pressure, and the relief pressure. Because all fluid going to the front goes through the FEL valve, I would install the gage in the input to the FEL valve, and leave it there for all future trouble shooting.
