I agree 100%. eBay is up to a 10% seller fee now or something like that? Plus 3% PayPal if you use that.

I sold a friends tractor on FB marketplace last year, had it listed there and CL, but only spammers replied to the CL ad.

I quit using CL because 3/4 of the adds were a scam. Marketplace is much better in that aspect. There was another more local site I used to use and MP is eating their lunch with 10k the items per search so I’ve about quite using that too.

Looking for opinions on selling my tractor with front-end loader. Local Deere dealer, who knows my machine well, recommends I ask $10,000 for it.

I've done a lot of business on ebay over the years, so I tend to lean that way, but back when I was a buyer I used tractorhouse.com. Then there's always Craigslist.

Opinions? Experiences? New machine due here in 10 days, and we're currently in our first "winter storm", which always gets the slackers out shopping. So it's prime time time to get moving on posting the old one somewhere.

In the past 6 months I have sold two relatively high cost items.

I sold my 1970 Ford TLB (cherry) for $9000.
It did not reach my reserve price on E-Bay, but I then listed of FB marketplace, and it sold in two days.
Yah never know.

The second sale was my dad's 1981 VW diesel pickup (also cherry) on E-Bay, and it sold for $7625.
The total E-Bay fees were $201.
I never use PayPal for big items, due to their fees.
The buyer sent me a $500 bank check for deposit (10 day waiting period), and paid the balance in cash at pickup.
I don't consider a $201 fee unrealistic for a $7625 sale.

I like E-Bay because it keeps the goofies away, and gives nationwide exposure to your item.

If you start your E-Bay listing at 9 or 10 PM on Thursday, and run it for 10 days, It will close at 9 or 10 PM on the second Sunday.
I like catching two weekends.

We have a thing called Kijiji, an on-line market place that many including myself use and love. Yes, the lowballers are annoying. But what the heck, no one says you have to sell to them or even respond to them. I have met some of the nicest (apparently) upstanding people buying and selling stuff.

This echoes my own experience. I have sold more than one car over $10k on ebay, I'm very comfortable with it. In fact I had a few smaller industrial items sell just today.

My only hesitation there is that I'm just not sure if it's a great marketplace for compact utility tractors. After all, I didn't even think to look there, when buying my two prior used tractors.

I sold a car on Ebay, I was satisfied with the process. I listed it twice though. The first time I listed it at what I thought was a fair price, got no bids and the auction expired. The second time I listed it about half that but set the reserve to the original price. I got a bidding war and the "winner" paid about 25% above reserve.

I have used Ebay for smaller items... but FB Marketplace has sold the last 4 tractor related items in 16 days or less for us (usually much sooner if you write a detailed ad). I have had success on Craig's List also but with all under $250 items... (& you have to be willing to deal with the scammers)

I don't have a FB account, and I had pretty much made my mind up on not wanting one, so FB Marketplace is a steep proposition. I assume you need to build some reputation there before jumping in with a $10k item. Also, what keeps the C-list scammers off FB Marketplace?

Buyers need to have an account too. If I saw an account with picture of the person or no info/few friends then probably a scammer.

Don't ya just love human nature, though? . . . .

No reason an item can't be listed in several places. Just include "subject to prior sale" in your/any listing to be fair to all and to limit gripes from mere tire kickers.

Size and dollar amount can be important for where to list, as suggested, just as regional trends can.

FB seems to be the better online venue between the Saginaw Valley and the Southern regions of Automation Alley. It can't be the same just everywhere.

Stuff like this I usually use CL but lately Facebook market place etc has worked well. Stuff like this I like to try and sell local first, just easier. With that said please dont be the guy that doesnt list year/make/model, hours and only has 1 picture.
