Re: Seatbelt
I'd LOVE to have a clunky non retractable seatbelt that buckles in the middle on our BX. That piece is a typical engineered solution using modern technology. The result, even with the seat back I have to twist around to fasten it and since it retracts so nice it usually retracts to a point UNDER the seat where half the time I have to get up off the seat to dig the darn thing out. If they are trying to promote safety theyre sure going about it the wrong way.
I too am a belt nut since the days when seatbelts were really rare, even installing better belts in vehicles, but my old flop over the fender when done Ford belt beats this turkey by a mile in ease of use. Just grab both ends of the Ford, snap it, pull as tight as you want and you're done.
I guess it's time for some home engineering.
And to the fellow that was going to put his own holes in, you won't be generating forces like a car accident can but be sure to use some backup washers and proper graded bolts for your mounts. (You probably were anyway...)
And to the comments about using a seatbelt on flat ground or not. I too am sometimes guilty thinking it's OK, and it probably is. I remember hearing about a local fellow that was just tooling along not that fast on safe ground. loader was dropping slightly (hey we're back to the leak down thread!) and it caught a rock or something and he went forward hard enough to break his ankle when the tractor stopped and he didn't.
Some of the times you need the safety stuff are the most unlikely, unimagineable circumstances.
Dig on...
