Setting poles in the ground

/ Setting poles in the ground #21
1. about 8 feet
2. Not really. The end of the post will be right at the drawbar at the start of the lift. The posts are only 13 -14 feet long.
3. No. The post will never be under the 3PH.
It's all just a plan now - I may have to modify as it unfolds
Bob

So if your boom will go up 8 feet, then you want to choke the pole at 8 feet plus the depth of the hole or a little less measured from the butt.

Well, I got the posts in the ground. A neighbor and I (mostly him) picked up an end and walked them up just as someone suggested. Piece of cake. Here are some pics as how we raised the beams in place. 1) Cinched a long cedar pole to two posts at a time and put a chain hoist on top. 2) raised them up in stages securing the load after each pull. had chains going everywhere, 3) after final pull the notched beams rested on top of the posts and were held in place with 1/2" threaded rod.

The rest of the sawshed awaits cutting pine rafters. Shed will measure 13 x 30 with a 21 foot open area.
