I suspect that they do that to keep the trailer from dropping when loading... notice the ramps don't have the drops to support it for that purpose. (Most car carriers don't.) It's half the price of a new one around here, assuming that it hasn't been racked from being overloaded it might be a good trailer even if you do need to replace the brakes.

I suspect that the camber is gone from the axle due to being overloaded.

I may never understand why people post a picture of a truck or trailer being way overloaded in a for sale add. I was looking at buying a 14k trailer and the guy was bragging about hauling a 310 backhoe on it which wasn’t as bad as that car hauler but still probably 50 percent over loaded.

Because a lot of people don't understand that those ratings are there for a reason, and want to show you "How much it will haul." (I hadn't considered the axles when I made my previous comment.)

I rode the ferry from Galveston over to the Bolivar peninsula and back this weekend. It is operated by the Texas Department of Transportation. There is no cost to ride. You have to remain in your vehicle until underway, then you can get out and walk around the deck or go up to the observation decks. The USCG station is next door to the ferry terminal so I am pretty sure it is not a Coast Guard requirement to stay in the vehicle, they probably would have noticed by now. :)

The last time we rode that ferry we went over to Boliver to the Stingaree and the shrimp sure were good!

Have you ever been to Gilhooley's in San Leon?

Sometime back I mentioned a load of metal roof panels that I planned on counterbalancing with concrete. I only got six panels this load and only used two fifty pound bags that are under the front tie down. Trailer is 8' and the panels are 13'6" There are also a few 2 x 4 x 8s under the metal.

Might not be my best load ever, but it made it home safely.

I feel like that load would have benefited from having a big red flag on the back. Anyone coming up behind you would have a pretty hard time seeing how far back those panels are sticking out, because they don't have much of a profile when you are looking at them end on.

I think that anything past the end of the vehicle more than 4 feet is supposed to have a red flag. It looks as though they are 5&1/2 feet beyond.

People ride the ferry's here in their cars all the time. If I remember correctly BC ferry's don't allow it but it's been a long time since I was on one. As far as the car off the boat I would guess suicide. Cars just don't move around on them. You could move the wheel chock and drive through the net no problem.

In southern B.C. it depends on the ferry. You aren’t allowed to stay in your vehicle on the enclosed decks anymore but you can on the upper, open car decks. About 12 years ago we had one sink on the north coast and two people were never found. It was believed they were sleeping in their vehicle on the bottom car deck.

The ships that run in rougher water up the coast have provision to tie vehicles down but I’ve never seen them do it but I’ve only been on the northern routes in the summer.

Never been over that way. I go down I45, take the Hardy Tollway and I610 around downtown, and straight down I45 to Galveston. I have eaten at a couple of places on the Bolivar peninsula.
