Then there was this guy who stuffed his semi into the historic front door of the State Capitol building in Sacramento 15 years ago. (he died).

Just got paroled and decided to drive truck. And apparently also decided to get back at 'the government' for the way he was treated in the prison psych hospital.

I can't find this detail online now, but he was so bad that the driver assigned as his instructor resigned from the company rather than ride again.

You're probably right. It's a shame though as a well publicized investigation would raise consciousness in the trucking industry and perhaps lead to tightened standards for CDL schools.

Sadly that is probably the thought process that was taking place just before the "that ain't good" moment.

If they hire morons to drive, that is all the more reason to invest in electronics to avoid such incidents. A GPS based alarm could prevent even most imbeciles from such a mistake. Trucking company still partly responsible for allowing driver who doesn't know how much truck weighs to drive for them.
