That was one expensive race for him. Those windmill blades aren’t cheap.
You have to wonder about his escort driver though.

The issue appears to be due to whoever planned that route, mostly. The driver too in part. The intersection wasn't wide enough for that length of load to make the turn. The timing of the train was just the bad luck piling on.

Trains run on schedules, which could be confirmed and taken into account. Any way that I look at it though, the driver was depending on his support team and they dropped the ball.

A long blade takes longer than usual to clear an intersection. Very likely here was no indication of coming train when the driver crossed the track. No sight of train as far as one could see.

The truck wasn't just slow going through the intersection, it was too long to actually make the turn. That's why it was initially stopped and why it ended up taking out the far side RR crossing arm/light when he finally decided to just GTF out of the way and. It should never have been on that route.
