Not at all! I spent many years there, and back and forth, and can tell you without reservation... their way is better.
20 years ago we had a ferry to catch after a traffic jam. With a Volvo 440 1.9 turbodiesel, 90hp. We were speeding at 190kmh when there was a matt black Merc AMG flashed his lights behind me, meaning i was holding him up in the left lane. I blended in the middle lane at 160kmh, and two more matt black AMGs passed with 250kmh.
When i hit the throttle again, i heard pheoww... and we were dead in the water. Not untill we slowed down to 120kmh i could feel anything happen when i hit the throttle. Turned out the intercooler hose tore lengthwise, front to back.
Passing lane laws are strictly enforced, and even more strictly followed. Germans tend to be rule-followers, good or bad. The ticket cost for driving in left lane, or passing on the right, was $700 way back in 1996... renze may know the current cost better than me.
I have no idea, i dont use the left lane to go sightseeing. Last year in Germany i hit 220kmh before i got a vibration in the steering wheel and an ABS error message. My tires apparently werent up to this speed, though there were no visible signs of ply breaks. Rest of the way i stuck to 140kmh, and i wont have Michelin tires again, they all dry rot too soon nowadays.
Anyways, i still havent tried the V70s top speed yet. The S70 just ran out of RPM instead of out of power, at 4000rpm the power curve of that 2.5 TDI topped off, with a taller gear it could surpass 200kmh i think. I mean it had 50 horse more than that 440.
The V70 is a six speed, it was still accelerating at 220kmh.
Most of the 35.000km i make annually are 90kmh on a provincial road, always above 50 mpg. So when i hit the Autobahn, i want to clear its throat and see what its got
