Shear Bolt ?

I need to pick up a spare shear bolt for a subsoiler. What grade bolt do I need? I was told grade 2, but I wanted to check with those in the know.

Shear bolt specs are application dependent. Your subsoiler operator's manual or parts catalog should spec the bolt.
Since you don't state the make and model of your subsoiler, you can't get an accurate answer to your question (as posed) here.

ditto what rick said. if it has the correct bolt in it now and is sae.. count the hash marks on the hex head... none=gr2 3=gr5 6=gr8

Thanks, It's an old cat. 1 subsoiler. I don't remember seeing a name on it, but I'll look closer tomorrow. I don't know if it's the original bolt in it now or not, but I'll check it tomorrow also. I have about 5 ac. of pasture that I want to subsoil and there are a good many trees (large roots) and rocks in it. I'd rather play it safe than damage the subsoiler or tractor.

Then start with a soft bolt.
