Shear Pin Question

I'd put a grade 10 bolt in it before I'd fool with a slip clutch. We cut horrendous things with our machines. So bad I'll have two tractors chained together to drag the one cutting. Has gr 10 bolts in since 1995. I've had to repair the ears with the pins. Beef up some other things. Never worked on the gear box. Not even a seal. Since 1995.

What are grade 10 bolts? I thought grade 8 would be the top grade for general bolts.

As far as I know there is no grade 10 SAE bolt, the only bolt I know marked as a 10 is a metric 10.9 which is the equivalent of an SAE grade 8.

Just a vote for McMaster-Carr supply company. They have an incredible variety available. 16 different grades and classes. Tensile strengths from 150 psi to 180,000 psi. Thread sizes from 0000-160 to 2 1/2-8, and similar range in metric. 15 different materials (of which steel is just one). They deliver fast and their online ordering is as simple and straightforward as you can imagine, given how many variables it takes to describe a screw or bolt. I used them in industrial design for 41 years and have my own personal account there still. They're not specific to ag but they have a boat load of choices.

What are grade 10 bolts? I thought grade 8 would be the top grade for general bolts.

Lots of oilfield around here. Grade 10 chain is common. Grade 10 bolts are common. Same are also called grade 100.

just make sure the rest of the components can take the higher grade. Relative borrowed rotary cutter. Replaced a sheared grade2 with a grade 5. The U-joint on the PTO shaft broke.
