Hey pmsmechanic check the picture with hood down and thanks!
Salmon prep: asked my wife and she said marinated in lemon juice and olive oil and lightly dusted with "Old Bay" and the skin is left on; placed on perforated grilling tray. Side of oriental stir fry vegetables and noodles. Home made biscuit. Pilner pre-meal. With the meal: Home brew wheat beer provided by my daughter's college micro-brew class (can't believe I pay for that!)

Tractor time: Pulled around a box blade for the drive that was liquified by recent rains. Low RPM. All good no leaks. No muffler brace rattle except at start up. Here is a picture with hood down. ACCEPTABLE. But when I get motivated you folks provided a lot new ways to attack this bolt. Thanks!

Looks good! If you get tired of the rattle a few dabs of high temp silicone (red/orange) will quiet that up.

Yup wax is one of the best lubricants I've found for seized bolts, used it all the time when I was working as a machinist for an engine builder to remove galley plugs, especially the tiny ones from aluminum heads.
Most candles didn't work as well, we always used a chunk of beeswax, seems to draw in better and stays put.

Thanks. I'll give the beeswax a try.

Started a post in JD Ag tractors replacing a steering line then I snapped off the bolt on the left hand side in the picture. I've tried to drill out out, extractors (broke 2 of them) and it's soaking in penetrating oil overnight. Will try chisel tomorrow. Anybody got any voo-doo solvents to get this very rusted bolt removed? Not set up to mig-weld a nut nor is there really enough the bolt proud of the manifold to thread anything. Thanks in advance for recommendations.

I know you're not set up to mig weld. That's unfortunate. I had a similarly broken exhausted stud on my Kohler engine back in September of 2017. It broke flush with the manifold, so nothing to grip. I put a slightly oversized nut over the stud hole, and fired the wire feed into the nut onto the stud. Just a few very quick trigger pulls. Let it cool for just a couple seconds and backed it out with a wrench while it was hot. Came right out.

See if you have a friend with a 110V wire feed welder. It really does work well.

Lots of good info. Sometimes its just the challenge of doing things right vs being finished.

I have a swamp full of Cedar and my lady friend goes out and buys this little cedar plank to cook fish. That didn't go over well, neither did her notion of putting maple syrop on the fish. I just use pepper and Dill. And SKIN. You couldn't give me fish without skin!

You just arent appreciative of her efforts to make you a better person.

Quite a few people are making a decent living on micro-brew now. “Watson, who took to the BA blog with data compiled from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau and brewery zip code locations, found a 183 percent increase in the number of breweries per 100,000 people in cities of more than 5 million people”. Market beer, food and a farm to table philosophy.........you might be making a smart investment in her future.

Your wifes salmon prep would be good with a decent brown ale. Salmon is pretty good with just a slathering of mayo, salt and pepper. Old Bay is a pretty good universal for seafood too.

BTW, nice fix with the tractor.

Quick question. I have seen people weld the nut right in and others use a washer and a nut. Why use the washer?

Weld the washer close to the block and more heat will go into the stud.

If there is a half descent piece of stud sticking out to weld to I don't bother with the washer. If the stud is broken off flush then it's easier to do a good job of welding on the washer first.

I don't have a mig welder otherwise I might just skip the washer part. I've also just welded on the washer and used a good brand new pair of Vice Grips and not bothered with the nut.
