Shed Truss Question

   / Shed Truss Question #22
This goes against everything I've been taught by framers...

I'll refer you to the paperwork you are given by the manufacturers on how to properly install their trusses, when you buy them. It's all in there.

The framers who taught you, either choose not to read that paperwork, or they choose to disregard it.

If you follow the proper published procedures, (including installing the drywall properly, ..that's a whole nother issue), it all works just fine.

Many builders are okay with not doing a lot of things by the book, when they didn't have to.

That's the entire reason for building codes.

There was a Roman emperor who got tired of builders building shoddy buildings that were collapsing, and killing the families inside. He decreed, that any builder who's work fails, causing death, would himself be put to death.

I bet it had an immediate affect on the quality of construction.

Or perhaps it's just not in the literature. I know I've never seen it. Maybe some truss manufactures just don't build deflection into their designs.

Anyhoo...this seems more of a regional thing than anything else.

   / Shed Truss Question #24
Engineered trusses are just that...engineered... that means there is documentation for any specific set of trusses...national and regional building codes all use basically the same boilerplate language on the topic of anything that includes engineered components...most all state that a (signed and sealed) copy of said engineering documents remain on the building site until a final inspection has been completed and a COO has been given...

Except for some cracker box buildings etc...most larger truss sets require final bracing after completion of setting...the documentation mentioned above will have all the details on the placement and nailing schedules of all bracing on the interior of the trusses (i.e., rat runs etc.,etc...)...it will also specify if said bracing is to be applied before or after dead loads have been applied...
