I have one of those spring-loaded center punches that simply pushing down on it "snaps" the internal hammer and strikes the punch; it is about the handiest item I ever used for center punching.:)

Automatic center punches also work great for breaking vehicle window glass.

Why would we want to break our windows ??

EMS uses them for access to people in car wrecks. I don't know current practice, but years ago we equipped our units with spring loaded center punches and contact paper. It allows EMS access to a locked in victim without showing them with broken glass.

One push from a spring loaded center punch will shatter a side window.

It's amazing how difficult it can be to break auto glass when you need to in an emergency. In practice drills, I've actually had a full swing from a fire axe bounce off!

My fire department still packs the center punches. We use duct tape rather than contact paper. An X on the window in duct tape does a surprisingly good job of keeping the glass from showering the patient.

It is amazing how difficult car windows are to break if you don't have the right tools.

We all manage to break glass or have to dispose of blown light bulbs etc. To do it safely, take a plastic anti freeze jug and , make a slice with a razor knife all the way across one side, about 2/3 rds of the way up. Now when you break something, you just depress the upper portion of the jug and drop the broken glass in the bottom. When it's about half full just throw it in the garbage and nobody including the garbage man gets cut.

OK one more (for trim carpentry) when fitting mitered boards like window or door casings etc...it can be difficult to hold a tape measure on the "short point" of a 45 or other angled cut...using a piece of wood or plywood ...hook your tape on a square end and make a mark (crowfoot, i.e., ^) at the desired length...then hold the "short point" of the mitered end of the molding on the square end of the board or plywood and transfer the measured mark onto the molding to make the second miter cut..

When you want to read something that is in color like above and you can't tell what it says on your screen, just highlite it and it will be very easy to read. :)

Great minds think alike (so do yours and mine:)). I saw the quote and highlighted it so that I could read what it said. Then I saw your reply and had a good laugh.

A radio flyer wagon like kids used to play with years ago is real handy around the shop and house. My wife wanted one and I got it for her and find I use it more than she does. I have two of the yellow mesh gardeners type wagons and they seem too heavy to pull empty, and you always have to pump up the tires when you need to use it.
