That's interesting, because I was in church Sunday, and our pastor said that tractors were intended to have rear mount snowblowers in the winter and that those who think otherwise are lost souls in need of help.

I think he also said something about the special advantages of red tractors, too.

Are you sure the preacher wasn't asking for prayer for red tractor people? JC

That could be, no doubt we need it. Unlike other colors, we can't just hide in the woods while others do all the work.

Two words...Wildlife Management. Over populated deer herds can raise havoc. Not to mention increased disease and ticks. Perhaps someone from PA would like to weigh in on the overpopulation of deer and the high cost it causes on the highways down there.

Theres a difference between culling and getting dressed up in Cammo gear and shooting an animal from behind a tree for fun and then hanging it's head on the wall .

I think you make it sound like its easy. Just go out there and shoot a deer, when the fact of the matter is the success of a hunting experience is very unlikely. Also, you make it sound like its just going out to shoot an animal for shootings sake. Like I said before, the vast majority of hunters eat their meat or donate it to less fortunate. Many also use the hide for productive means. I don't see any problem with putting the head of a deer, or other fairly taken game animal, on a wall. If the rest of the deer is used productively why not honor a good hunt. I assume you don't have a problem with trophies of all kinds?

Sorry for the hijack of the thread. I hope that rounds don't go up either, but I have my suspicions.

And what is wrong with that? I hunt and I like to hunt. Period. If you are trying to change people through this board, save your time. If you are pushing agenda, save your time. You stated your opinion, thats your right, but you have no right to talk down anybody who is doing something you dont approve.

Just to turn it around: do you fish?

I've lived in a hunting (and fishing) family for closing in on 60 years - and have spent more time than I can count in the woods hunting birds and deer. I have lots of neighbors and friends who do the same - some schedule their vacation time around deer hunting season (November in these parts).

I can honestly say, that except for my teenage years when we used to shoot rats at the dump, I have never known anyone who hunted purely for the sake of killing something.

If you've never done it, you won't understand. But even in the act of field dressing, there has been a respect for the animal by every hunter I have known.

I do not have any wall hangers. My uncle does, and I have friends who do. Just not my cup of tea. However, for that mount on the wall, there was a freezer full of meat in each case. Very little meat was lost because the wanted to mount the head; all the mounts I have seen have the hide and horns put on a wooden or plastic "skull". No meat is wasted in order to do those mounts.

FWIW, I have done most of my hunting in Wyoming; it is the law there that you must wear blaze orange when in the field. I wear it here in California too(although not for waterfowl).

It is very unfortunate that there are a few trophy hunters out that do not use the meat. Unfortunately, a very very small minority are the ones that get the attention, and give the rest of us hunters a bad name.

It should also be noted, at least in the US, that hunters put out a LOT of money and time to conserve nature. I duck hunt; Ducks Unlimited and other waterfowl associations have bought up or leased large amounts of land for habitat, that other wise would have been plowed under, whether for crops, or houses; land that is critical mating and hatching area's. Without that conservation, ducks would decline drastically, even without hunting. I have taken my tractor to a number of field conservation work days, donating my time to conserve and imrove habitat.

That's why I got a 100 round box of target shotshells for $22 at Walmart. Some of the money from tax on ammo goes towards land conservation. My duck tag goes towards habitat restoration.

Do what ever you like , i do'nt care . I stated my opinion , which as you say is my right . No matter how many times you say it or how LOUD you say it , or how many of you say it , you wont change the fact that i dissaprove of someone killing an animal from a safe distance and then putting his foot on it with his chin stuck out proudly while he gets his picture taken . That is extremely disrespectfull . Not once did i say that killing for food was wrong (i have a freezer full of beef) . Culling because of crop damage is a genuine reason , culling because of danger to traffic is a genuine reason , culling because of danger to the public is a genuine reason (if trap and relocate is not an option). Lets get back to what i said in the first place . Am i trying to change people through this board ? Get real , how influential do you think i am ? If you like the idea of a wall with heads from Bears , Lions , Tigers and Elephants hanging from it and think that they feel honoured too be there you should think again . As you can see , i do'nt just say things to be popular , i say what i feel , that's called honesty .
